So I work with a guy near my cubicle who likes to rub it in your face that he's better than you because he drinks Chai Lattes, drives a Subaru, recycles, and listens to NPR. Recently, he bought a Macbook Pro 14". When I asked him if he liked it, he replied with his nose in the air "hmm, yea, hmm could be a bit bigger, yea, hmm".

I mention this dipshit because while I may agree with him that the laptop could be a bit bigger, the choice between a 14" and 16" screen walks a fine line between objectivity and subjectivity; you can live with a 14 inch macbook pro.

NOT. RANGE.

I got back yesterday after taking the wife and 2 and 4 yo to Panama City in the MYP (nah no nose in the air for me - I wish I could've taken all of ya and drank beer together!).

We were on our last supercharger with 198 miles left to go. With the help of my screaming 2 year old "daddy - drive-home! WAA! CAR-NOW-HOME!" I decided to cut the charger at 269 miles saving us an additional 20 minutes of screaming hell at 1 in the morning.

The range anxiety thing is no joke. Yes, I admit whole-heartedly that I have a heavy foot with the not-so-long-range edition, but I wasn't gunning it, and I ended up going from 78 for 10 minutes to 70 and got behind a truck to make it home (see attached).

That's right - I had 3 miles of range left. HOLY F$%#!

The problem is we're so damn used to gas stations everywhere that we take them for granted. I absolutely love this car, and I'm keeping this car, but I want to offer up some free perspective: even with a 350kw supercharger (which might not be immediately available), you need a large battery capacity to charge up to 70%+, you need the flexibility to drive into the woods or carry heavy/high drag coefficient loads without range anxiety, and if you think you aren't going to see a supercharger ever in your life like I did because you want to treat your truck as a commuter, then you better hope you're right - life is full of unknowns.

Whatever the price difference ends up being, if you can, buy the 500 mile range model. It might be a stretch, but I'm telling ya, you'll have peace of mind in the long run.

Please excuse any errors and brevity - I'm still tired AF.

Try being at 0% for 5 miles then range anxiety goes away :p. Tesla leaves around 2-3kwh+ reserved for under 0%. Once you start seeing your acceleration being limited and the "dots" start closing in it means you truly have 3 miles left.

Your post offended me, so I went to Whole Foods for lunch, and then picked up a Dyson vacuum and some Bose headphones. I feel much better.

In all seriousness though, you can never be too rich, too thin, or have enough range. There's a 500-mile Cybertruck coming, but maybe not right away.

From watching Tesla's "Battery Day" and reading between the lines, Elon's counting on the 4680 having much greater energy density, and it's not there yet. For instance, they are not yet using silicon in the electrodes. But the 4680 is still ramping up, so I believe it's only a matter of time.

Here's a few things to keep in mind:
  • Tesla already has 30,000+ SuC stalls, and is adding 500-1000 per month.
  • Tesla now sells a CCS-Combo Adapter, allowing charging at many 3rd-party stations.
  • The IRA law will increase growth of charging stations even further.
  • By the time you get your CyberTruck, the kids will be in college anyway.

I take the love back Gus (but keeping the shower curtains I need 'em).

Nah you're probably right - I think though at this point for me its 500 or bust unfortunately 🤔

Typing this on my 9 month old MBP 14". Planning on trading it in for a MacBook Air when I retire end of the year, because, well, the MBP is just too big, and too thick (that's what she said). And well, "there's no problem down there, trust me!". I don't drink coffee.

I'm with you on the 500 miles range, but mostly for towing and going into the mountains. Although in reality, in the mountains, you never really go as far as you think, and if you're "off Roading it", you aren't constantly burning "fuel" like in an ICE car. So probably overestimating how much you'll need. Unless you want drive above timberline and camp for a week while powering your electric camp stove and also heating the tent. In that case, why don't you have a solar panel?

And who am I kidding thinking I'll ever get the wife to camping again at our age.....

Limiting factor on range is actually the size of my bladder.:ROFLMAO::coffee:

The difference in weight between a 14" Pro and a 13" Air is pretty minimal now a days. They don't make the 11" anymore.

And that’s how I based my decision, but it’s still too big.

why are we debating this? 🤣

Yeah, just, the Air has less battery life, a worse screen, and...

...I just had to make the same choice, that's all. Got my 14" Pro in February just after my birthday. It's been something getting used to having something that doesn't fit as well as my 11" did. But it was nine, and wasn't reliable anymore. The couch fell on it one too many times.

I'll also be disappointed if they end up using m3p instead of NCM - I need range but still want that 2.9 sec (but I choose range regardless with this truck).
