After 1 year of living with 007 I decided it was time to remove the factory screen protection film and get him a Birthday ? present. So, I splurged on the Abstract Ocean tempered glass version in "Clear" finish for the bragging rights of being the hardest screen protector you can buy. Aliminosilicate glass is touted as the hardest glass in the world by the company and demands an extra $20 above the next competitors glass screen protector.
It also promises germ resistance from touching it, though, I really bought it for the "hardness" of the glass to match the "bullet-proof" theme of the CyberTruck. After watching Abstract Ocean's installation video I was ready to install 007's new Birthday ? present.
First, time to finally remove the factory film from my screen. Yes, it has been there since I took delivery a year ago.
Opening the box ? you have 2 screen protectors, polishing cloths, and air bubble removers.
The cabin monitor protector is part of a frame installation design. You can't screw it up as long as you watch the installation video before beginning.
This "frame" insures that the screen protector is perfectly aligned with the CyberTruck control panel. Once you snap it on, (be sure to carefully attach per video instructions) you pull the plastic backing off from the tempered glass protector from the right side.
And this is where my experience differs from the video installation by Abstract Ocean. I’ve got quite a few air bubbles. Large ones, small ones, long ones, and tall ones. A lot of air bubble ? between the screen and the protector glass. Unlike Abstract Ocean's installation instructions, I chose to take my time and the included cloth to push the bubbles ? out. My experience is that it is never a good idea to pull up the corners to remove bubbles. I knew there was no lint or debris to cause this so I just took my time. After about 15 minutes of patience I successfully pushed all the air out and had a perfectly installed "Aluminosilicate Glass" protector. 007 was very pleased with his interior armor.
The rear screen protector went on easily though it requires old-school application technique for lining it up. Be sure to watch the video from Abstract Ocean and take your time.
After a year of ownership I now enjoy a beautifully bright and clear screen. Thanks to Abstract Ocean, I tell my passengers it's the toughest screen in the world!
