Adaptive Headlights!

I think this is great news!

And here's the text from the above link:

Federal lawmakers update US standards for car headlights
by Miranda Vondale Foster KOKH
Monday, January 17th 2022

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) - For the first time in decades, federal lawmakers are updating the U.S. standards for vehicle headlights after reports say that 75% of pedestrian deaths happen at night.

Two years from now, all new cars in the nation will be equipped with adaptive driving beam headlights, which is expected to increase roadway lighting as much as 86%.

"The best ways to improve your visibility at night are to use your highbeams and to slow down and realize you might not be able to go the speeds that are posted, maximum speeds," said AAA spokesperson Leslie Gamble.

Until vehicles are updated with these new headlights, drivers can take precautions like routine check-ups on headlights. AAA says if headlights appear to be yellow or cloudy, it is time to restore and replace the headlights to improve light output.

By the time high beam guy switches to low beam I’ve already been blinded.

Even some of the bright blue "low" beams these days do that as well.

I always try to time my high to low beam timing for the instant before my lights shine in the eyes of an oncoming driver rounding a bend or cresting a hill. Too late, and you blind them, too early and they're more likely to blind you. ?

This is one of the (minor) reasons I want to switch from the S to the CT. I'll sit higher and won't get blinded by others' lights at night.

Range Rovers have adaptive/reactive headlights that defaults on high beam and switch to low when encountering another car or truck.

Thanks, I learn one more new thing today. But I want my Cybertruck where the headlight bend with the curve of the road.:p
My Mazda does this, but until this ruling, headlights were limited in how far around the corner they were allowed to lead, which was a bummer.
