Carbon credits are only worth a couple grand per car. The Rivian is at least thirty grand more expensive than I can afford. (IE, a whole 'nother car worth)

In all honesty a couple of years ago we started looking at what to get to replace our aging Nissan, its been a great little truck and you would be surprised how often we chose to drive it over the F-150 just because of its size.

We considered a Toyota Tacoma, Jeep Gladiator Nissan Frontier (despite the problems we had with a Pathfinder) The Toy and Nissan wound up nearly the cost of our F-150 and had similar fuel economy to the Ford and only half the capability. The Gladiator was just plain out expensive and Jeeps don't exactly have the greatest long term reliability on top of getting worse FE than the Ford.

As far as electrics we live in a very rural area so range is very important. I liked that Rivian had a spare, but the access to it was a slap in the face, I would have to unload the truck to get to it. And I can't afford it.

The Lightning is great (even has a spare in the right location), but lacks range and a decent charging infrastructure in our area.

The Cybertruck despite its looks is very promising, I have a dual motor pre-ordered, hoping to be able to get the big battery for it (250k). Lack of paint and load mode were the deal makers for me. I have several friends trying to convince me to get the tri-motor if I can afford it. Not certain if we will be able to but the delay works in our favor.

If the Cyber should fall through my options are the Ford Ranger (not 4 door for the bed space), or doing an insane sleeper V-8 mod, frame, suspension upgrade to the Nissan to make it a perfect little monster tow pig.

Any other trucks? Pfft, no. I don't even like trucks. I don't want the Triangle Truck because it's a truck, I want it because it's a Martian Space Tank and I'd like to have a bulletproof apocalypse-mobile that I can continue to fart around in after the inevitable collapse of society (assuming I can get solar charging on the thing).

I like the Rivian R1T with 800 HP and quad motors. The $67,500 Explorer Package price didn't make sense when you can order a 500 mile range Tri Motor CT for only $3,400 more.
Should factor in the $7500 tax credit on the R1T. No tax credit on Tesla currently - Hopefully that will change.

Rumor control has it that the $7500 will go straight to the dealer instead of being a tax credit on your income tax (which a lot of us don't pay).
I'd buy the CT without a tax credit/rebate but if I can get that much removed from my purchase price all the better. Just means I can pay it off sooner and have some extra money to spend on accessories for the CT.
Mine is gonna look bad ass with the Cragar SS's and side pipes.

I'd love to have a 1950 Chevy 3100 5 window.
About the same price as a CT.

I used to drive one of these in high school. It was my brother-law‘s, and he let me borrow it.

No other truck other than the Cybertruck fits our needs. If the Cybertruck hadn’t been announce, we’d be driving a Model X right now.

I am curious if members considered any other pickup trucks, ICE or BEV, before placing a Cybertruck deposit.

Hmm, is there another truck or SUV in production with stainless steel body? NO

Then no I did not consider anything else.

------------------------
The stainless steel monocoque body sold me as well. Then I found out it was 3mm (roughly 1/8”) thick. Holy crap!!! My first thought after viewing the reveal was this: is Tesla really serious about building this indestructible pickup?

My #1 and #2 vehicle ownership pet peeves have virtually been eliminated. Paint chips from road debris and door dings from inconsiderable A-holes. Someone finally listened!

So Sexy. If Tesla ever does opt for a "more traditional" pickup style they should take their queues from this era of truck, not modern trucks.

I'd love to have one of these, but it would need to have at least 8" of ground clearance and proper work tires. Then after the first time I took it up the hill to do trail work I'd have people screaming at me.

Sure, I considered other trucks, just not for very long! I own a F-150 for the approximately 7% of my trips that require a truck and I want to replace it with an EV. There's nothing really wrong with it other than it's an ICE truck and has a very high center of gravity giving it rather poor off-road performance and limited ability to do avoidance maneuvers on the highway without rolling over. Yes, it's dangerous compared to my Model 3.

The electric version of the F-150 is not in contention due it's very small 5 1/2 foot bed. I know one foot shorter doesn't sound like much but when you need a truck (and that's the only time I drive a truck) that one foot makes a huge difference. The Rivian is even worse - it's not even a truck in my opinion because it's bed is only 4 feet. Yes, I will use a trailer but with the Rivian that would pretty much be all the time. My truck has to be able to do most of my truck chores without getting a trailer involved. It makes no sense to have such a small bed if that means a trailer is required just to use it as a truck.

Really, the Cybertruck is the only electric truck that can do what I need it to do. And I definitely won't be buying anymore gas or diesel trucks so Cybertruck it is!

I'm old enough to have driven a number of trucks from that era. People who haven't experienced them would be shocked, and I mean utterly and totally shocked at how gutless they are. I'm talking so slow they are a chore to drive in regular traffic. Put a load in the bed or attach a trailer and it's ridiculously worse. Seriously, things were really laid back in that era. It would take 20 seconds just to get up to highway speed (with an empty bed) and they generally couldn't go faster than 60 or 65 mph unless it was downhill with the engine screaming.

Not just that, the drive is truly terrible. A lot of people would drive with a couple sacks of gravel or a bale of hay in the bed to improve the ride and traction.

They were also quite unreliable. Easy to fix, but required more frequent maintenance and repairs.

I couldn't own one of those because I just can't park a $50,000 chotskyh in my driveway and it's too impractical for any daily use.

The Boss Lady was rooting for a new Dodge dually but since the EPA ruined the diesel engine I was not going to make a payment on a $70,000.00 truck that I would have to dump urine in to keep it running. Have to pony up another couple of thousand to render the idiotic emissions systems inoperative did not appeal to me either.
When I saw the CT I instantly knew that it would be the last vehicle I ever buy.
And ironically, you are reducing your emissions in the process.
Another win for the EPA! Hooray! (I am totally serious ?).
