I know to check lug nuts in vehicles regularly. Also that it is a good idea to check them on new vehicles but seeing that the Cybertruck is only the third new vehicle I have ever purchased the excited of it all made me forget the basics. When I was installing the mud flaps today I noticed a lug nut cover was missing. Well not just the cover, the entire lug nut :)

Moral of the story. Don’t forget the basics!

Edit: This was at around 900 miles. About 80 of those were on some wild switchbacks, pushing the Cybertruck to some tire squealing turns :)

O’Reilly Auto Parts had one that was almost the same as the original, just a little shorter. Plan to get one from service some day. Oh when I checked them all after that discovery some of them where silly loose. Not amazing :)

A good reminder! Always check the basics. Just checked my jeep's lugs thanks to this. 2/20 were definitely a touch loose. None missing though.

Thanks again!

I wasn't checking my lug nuts adequately, and apparently went from March to a week ago with only 4, then 3, then 2 lug nuts. And my car was serviced/observed by Tesla Upland TWICE during that time, and they didn't notice the lug nuts missing.

Then they claimed they take photos on intake and exit of all vehicles being serviced, and they allegedly had photos showing my lug nuts were there. Despite MY photos that show they weren't.

Then Tesla asked to come to my house to torque the lug nuts today, after I just drove home from a service addressing this issue, because (tadaaaaaa) THEY DIDN'T TORQUE THE LUG NUTS OR TAKE PHOTOS.

I bet they also signed off that they checked the air pressure in the tires 😅

I think spec is 205lbs of torque. A service technician just came to my house. Of the 3 other wheels that were not part of the issue? A minimum of 5 of the 6 were not torqued to spec. Technician had to add an additional 1/8 of a turn at most to the lugs. A few were less of a turn, but many of them had to turn 1/8 of a turn to reach spec.
