When we bought our car in 2017 we did not get fsd. over the next couple of years Tesla upgraded the computers the cameras and the display screens On the model S’s . Tesla stated that They would keep hardware up to date to meet fsd requirements. Tesla offered to let us upgrade to fsd in 2020 For $ 3,000. It was a no brainer. They upgraded our computer our 2 displays and our cameras for that 3 grand.

It remains to be seen if Tesla can make hardware ver. 3 do full autonomy. I tend to think it will work. But Tesla will have to make it work or upgrade the hardware, regardless of the expense.
Sounds like another lawsuit in the making.

I didn't talk to anyone at Tesla, I get all my information from public statements made by the company.

I don't understand what you are telling me I'm wrong about though, considering there is no conflict between your statements and mine.
It's this that confused me.
" Tesla says they are not compatible with further FSD hardware upgrades but that ver. 3 hardware will work for autonomy, when it's ready. "

But if we are saying the same thing, fine.

Why not just buy Foundation Series now and then trade it in for a 2028 model with the bigger better batteries and whatnot?
If it is worth $80k at trade in.. great option!! 40k , … well .. we should have waited. New Model X’s used to be $125-150k.. now 72k…

I think if Tesla actually solves FSD and the FSD option increases from $12k to 25-50k .. Cybertruck FS would end up being a great value.

I am so conflicted about this. On one hand, I know the rational, money-wise, decision is to wait. But on the other hand, YOLO, YCTIWY, etc. etc. and as a technology enthusiast I feel I've waited long enough. Yeah, the range is disappointing but the price is where I realistically expected it, and Tesla has provided so many extra cool features I wasn't expecting to play with. This truck will keep me happy for many years, I think. I am looking forward to developing my own and seeing what other people develop for it.

If you can afford it and your wife won't divorce you go for it, but like pretty much all vehicles, it is not a good investment and will definitely depreciate.

for what it’s worth, both will tend to be a lot more expensive than a 26kW generac - especially for the few days a year that appear to be your hole needing filled

separately, it appears that folks may be buying the CT before discovering their home isn’t “qualifying” for the system somehow - this aspect isn’t clear to be but I haven’t had reason to explore it in detail. Sounds like you might should.

not trying to dissuade you, just adding to your metaphorical white board of considerations to be diligenced
You cannot power your house with a cybertruck, only your fridge and a few lights, that's it.

Like you, I bought FSD on my Model 3 back in Spring of 2018. As I recall, we paid for the feature in advance of its availability, they didn't even have a beta version ready and provided no guarantees as to when it would go live. I believe we waited years.

Cybertruck's FSD beta will go live sooner than that, I'm sure, but what we are really buying is the locking in of the price of FSD now, for when it goes live with full autonomy. In the interim we will be able to use the latest versions of FSD beta. The real question is how long before they have the beta calibrated for Cybertruck. My best guess is before the year is out, probably a good amount sooner, like by summer.
That where I differ 😃
I think that FSD is overpriced at @12k and not worth it. EAP is just about worth the $6k, but that's a close call. Almost nothing of features like smart summon or auto park are working properly.
I also think that FSD will always be L2 and never get to full L4/5 autonomy, so worth much less than $12k.
I'm keeping my 2018 Model 3 with FSD to see if they deliver, but really SpaceX will get to Mars before FSD is fully implemented 😎
