I followed the everyday chris video to remove the mirror and to open the autopilot housing. Inside there is a red and black wire 2 pin connector. I found the connector in the tesla schematic and ordered parts from digikey to make an inbetween connector. This connector then "T"'s the red and black signals to a DC barrel jack. This way if there is an issue in the future I can totally disconnect the power and voltage step down. Here are some photos of the process.
Below is the cable assembly. It is about 2-3 inches in length which was just enough to exit the housing cleanly.
I disconnected the red/black wire housing from the clip in the triangle cover. Then put the dongle inbetween the two connectors. Then I closed it up without pinching any wires.
The DC barrel jack sticks out, I can use some black electrical tape or 3M tape to secure it if it bothers me. So far I don't notice it.
I tested the power to the Jomise G814-pro rearview mirror. It uses 0.8 to 1 Amp at 5v.
The jomise has some straps to hold it onto the mirror. However there is a little gap behind it. So I used some foam padding that came with the jomise to cushion it and prevent rattles. I wrapped the excess cord around the mirror and used a 90 degree usb-c to keep it out of the line of sight of the autopilot mirror.
The screen is pretty good. When it powers on it normally enters Car Play and the last app you are using. I like to set it on Waze to be alerted of traffic data along my route. There is a rearview camera that plugs into the mirror which I need to figure out where to route next. I am thinking of placing on on the top trim of the truck bed (the piece that is removed when you install the cybertent). Any tips or tricks on how best to route this please let me know.
