Colorado has put a hold on all electric truck registration renewals. This happened early 2025, and I'm not sure if it affects vehicles registered before then, or after.
I never got a renewal notice in the mail. So I didn't notice my registration had expired. I registered in Nov 24, but didn't get my plates until Jan 15. I was thinking that it wouldn't expire until 1 year from getting my plates(I only thought this because I hadn't got my notice, and I was too lazy to look at my plates). Once I noticed I tried to renew online, but said I was ineligible. And there was a note on the bottom of the page saying you can't register too early. So I chauked it up to that. I fillably called and found out that all electric trucks had a holdup on sometime in Jan. State messed up/decided to tax electric trucks differently. I didn't owe anything, but he said most had to pay up to $1600 extra. The lowest he saw was $400. I'm thinking the extra amounts are for trucks that met the CO tax incentive for new electric vehicles.
So heads up, if you're due for a renewal, and live in CO you probably have a hold and won't get a notification, and will still get a late fee. On that note, my renewal was only $1600, which is high, but didn't have the $200 federal fee, only a $60 electric vehicle fee, whichI think is reasonable considering I'm using gas(road tax added).
