I sold my Lightning to buy my CT, and I've regretted it quite a bit since. Mainly because I wish I sold my Model 3 and kept the Lightning + Cybertruck. The Lightning was more comfortable on longer trips and had more storage. Having all my luggage get wet in the bed of my CT versus the massive frunk of the Lightning was a bummer on a recent trip.

I'd say it's 60-40, the CT does more right than the Lightning. But the Lightning is 60% the price, so until the CT goes down another $20k, I think both have a purpose. Especially for work, I really miss reaching over the side of my truck bed, CT makes that impossible. It's a bit of an irony, but the CT has replaced a car well, not so much a work truck. Steer by wire makes driving the CT in tight downtown areas easier than my Lightning ever was, and the air suspension let's me fit in my work garage that was too small for my Lightning.

I'm waiting to see if Tesla brings steer by wire to any other models. If it isn't at least announced by the end of next year, my M3P will likely be traded for a Lightning again.
Base model cybertruck is $80k. I’d say it’s comparable to a Lariat ER. The said LER would set you back around $72k after incentives, possibly less if you qualify for the seventy five hundred. Powered bed cover and spray in liner are another $3-4k.

Where is this 60% math coming from?

I otherwise agree, frunk is small and seats are better in the lightning. The amount of space in the second row was also substantially more. Lightning suspension was weird, at times it was soft and comfortable, at others - it felt like an old car with blown out shocks.

The best combo is the Beast and Flash. The AWD CT is about as fun to drive as the Lightning, you need to spec up for the CT to be truly enjoyable. The Flash is $60k and is exactly what I need in a work truck/occasional road tripper. $110k+ for a Beast with the options that are basically mandatory, versus $65k for a Flash the way I want it. This also puts the Flash at basically the same price as a M3P, so my garage costs the same as my current configuration.

I do not believe you’re comparing apples to apples here. Flash is basically an XLT, without leather heated / cooled seats. Again, in my opinion Lariat ER is what you should compare a regular AWD (not beast) against.

This is where there is a large disconnect between truck buyers and CT buyers. For a work truck, function is king. I don't need to have a Lariat on a job site. Also this where saying my Beast is a better replacement for a M3P is key to my point. The Beast is more fun to drive than my M3P and with SBW, it is just as easy to maneuver in tight areas. The key is the Beast upgrade to match the level of fun of a M3P.

The CT just misses a lot of stuff that comes in handy for a work truck. Reach over the bed, tailgate step, table in the front, etc. Plus I feel a lot better beating up a $65k truck than a $110k truck. Beast + Flash is the ultimate garage combo and that's what I'll get when they are discounting MY25 Flash... unless SBW is added to MS/M3. Then Tesla wins me over again, because I just love SBW that much.

1) Beast + Flash = $175k
2) AWD + M3P = $155k

If you can swing the $20k, the first option is perfect.

I don’t truck for living. The CT will replace the family SUVan.

Got my invite to build the non-FS a few weeks back (RN1129). Plaid is sold so I have the green light from the spouse. I really want to see what that tax credit will do but I just don't see it happening, though. I've waited essentially 5 years so I guess another couple of months isn't going to hurt. I'd like to at least know I have a 2025. Maybe they might get the tax credit sorted out by then but I think that is just wishful thinking.
the tax credit doesn't work backwards plus the requirements are stricter every year. So it's a long wait IF it even qualifies next year. I'm lucky that I can claim the Commercial credits for work driving. But many ppl are in the same boat. Once the cheaper price minus $7500 is implanted in their mind, ppl don't wanna spend more lol.

But I said the perfect combo would be:
1) Lightning - Work truck and long trips.
2) CT - More fun to drive and better in the city.

CT is the ultimate Model 3 replacement, not the ultimate Lightning replacement.

It is funny how many people on here never owned, or likely even drove, a Lightning and hate it. I've put 10k+ miles in both Lightning and CT, I am not an uninformed stan.
On the same hand you can say nearly all other then you talking mess on the CT have never driven one or may of never even sat in one .

Base Autopilot is included on all Tesla vehicles. It's included on the CT, but just not available, yet.

Yeah I said “nearly all”
I see your point. Think of all the annoying people who know everything about the CT and never have experienced one. The irony is there are a lot of people on this site who get mad at the biased CT hate, but then do the same thing for the Lighting. I'm not sure if it is funny or sad.

Truth is, both are excellent trucks.

Is that English? Or logic?

You overspent on a truck.

-Crissa
It's only 'overspent' if you got something that's not worth it to YOU...

Is spending over $107,000 for a Range Rover worth it?
Is spending several hundred thousand on a Lamborghini worth it?

It all depends on what you want and how much you want to spend. It could be worth it to YOU, or not.

This tracks with a theory about Cybertruck sales.

The US pickup market is obviously huge, so it made sense for Tesla to compete there, and they have succeeded in winning a chunk of it. But it seems like customers are not necessarily buying Cybertrucks to replace their F-150s or Silverados or Rams. Instead, many (perhaps most?) Cybertruck buyers are replacing their sedans or SUVs -- especially their electric sedans or SUVs.

If this is correct, it's not ideal for Tesla, because Tesla dominates the electric sedan and SUV markets. So Cybertruck sales could potentially be "cannibalizing" the sales of other Teslas. In other words, Tesla gains a Cybertruck sale, but loses a sale of some other vehicle.

You might expect the Model S and Model X to be particularly affected, because they have starting prices similar to that of the Cybertruck. And in fact, their sales have fallen recently, especially the Model S, which is more "truck-like".

2022 Model S sales: 32,675
2023 Model S sales: 16,466
2024 Model S sales: 10,803 (through 3 quarters)

Possibly this issue will come up on the quarterly earnings call on Wednesday of next week.

Both are trucks, but sorry, I don't think the F150 Lightning is all that great. I think the ICE powered F150 is better than the EV model, but there are other EV trucks out there (like the ones from Rivian) that are also better than the F150 (either type) - In MY Opinion that is... I have not owned the EV model (have had an F150 in the past) and I have seen and driven the Lightning and didn't think it was all THAT great (IMO).

I don't actually HATE any of them though, not like people seem to hate on the CT... I guess that's the difference... some people are 'haters' and the rest are not...
