I am considering modifying the Squircle into a Yoke. I would like to mount a display behind it without its view being impeded. I do not use the top part of the wheel while driving. I know there are steering wheel options for the S,3,X,Y but there are no aftermarket options for the CT yet.

Does anyone have any experience, recommendations, or considerations they can share?

Probably going to cut through some heater wires there, probably. Something about the Audi steering wheel looks off, maybe the caps or something.

Ahh thanks. I had not considered that. Last thing I want is faults/errors popping up.

My recommendation is leave it alone and get used to it.

Pimp my EV has confirmed to me via email that they are soon to offer steering wheel options for the Cybertruck so you can just wait until those are released instead of trying to hack through it yourself.

Cheers

I actually think the squircle is the best steering option currently. More compact than a traditional wheel, but not as untraditional as a yoke.
I actually only leave my hand on the top of the squircle exclusively. With 4 wheel steering and steer-by-wire, it’s a game changer.

Thanks for the info. I am all about the path of least resistance, and this is it.

Interesting, I almost never touch the top. I am an elbow resting on the center console and door, with my index fingers or thumbs hooked into the bottom left and right corners kind of guy. Plus at the top there is the least leverage. If your hand is in the middle you have to twist your wrist instead of pulling down/up.

The squircle is by far my favorite too. I despise the X yoke with click button horn.

The only thing I wish is that it telescoped out further, long legs means your arms are outstretched a lot.

I think it comes down to preference. I don’t mind the twisting of the wrist. I prefer it actually. My hand never leaves the “wheel” (squircle)

Aside from the heating function in the wheel, the other issue I see is the 48V architecture. Unless someone can confirm, with a voltmeter, that the airbag system (behind the wheel's center horn) is 12V. You might just have to wait until 3rd party solutions, such as "Pimp My EV", comes out.

Another alternative is this:
1) Purchase the steering assembly from Tesla Parts directly.
2) Perform the cut as you intended.
3) Finish the ends of the cut with end caps or pleather.
4) Assemble it and see what happens.
5) Most likely you would lose the heating feature, but if you live somewhere warm/hot then it's a nonissue.
*Note* As this is experimental, if the entire steering assembly stops working then you will lose out on the purchase price of the part, but at least you'll still have your original steering wheel to fall back on.

If and when you do perform this, make sure to disconnect both the power from High Voltage Battery and the 48V. Finish the work. Reattach the power. Then go to the "Service" menu, and then choose "Steering Calibration" in order for it to work.

Good Luck!

You mentioned wanting to do this in order to have a clear view of a 2nd display. Since there is a lot of depth to the top of the dashboard, couldn't you simply move the display further forward?

Dear god no. I love the squircle. Drove a Model X with yoke and hated it, like despised, there’s a reason the yoke is no longer the default steering wheel ON ANY TESLA.

I feel its an issue if you don't have steer by wire. Right now I do not ever need to move my hands on the wheel. It could even be a horizontal pole and it would be fine.
