Was just reading this thread.

I've now seen a few different makers with accessories "made for the CT". All of the external attaching accessories though seem to just be the same kinds of accessories as other trucks get with CT specific attach mechanisms and power connections.

The one issue I see is that the CT has been optimized for lower drag values. Attaching all these cool accessories will certainly have an impact on the amount of drag experienced. The CT itself is a radical re-imagining of what a truck can look like. As a result, we get a truck with radically updated features and abilities.

I'm curious what a radical re-imagining of these various accessories could bring about. What would it look like to totally redesign these accessories to take advantage of the CT itself? At a minimum, how could these accessories be integrated to the CT without impacting drag? And what kind of company would be able to create these accessories?

While the Cybertruck is indeed designed for low drag, adding drag is not necessarily deadly. Or more specifically the decrease in range doesn't matter as much as one things, once you get over range anxiety.

In the Model 3, the wheel covers, like the Cybertruck, has better economy with the wheel covers on. But there are many people who like the way the regular wheels look and leave the covers off. It's a deliberate loss of range at a user's choice.
It's the same with the selection of the All Terrain tires on the Cybertruck for the Foundation Series. Especially for the first trucks, I'm sure that AT just look better than the All Weather tires will.

But yes, I'm sure that manufacturers will keep this in mind. While you indicate that the existing options are similar to those in other trucks, Tesla has had a vigorous third-party market for years. And many of those manufacturers have done a lot of work to assure or decrease the CoF for the vehicle.

Also remember that it's often easier to get an existing product with the modification needed for the Cybertruck to market faster than it is to get a new product to market.

So look for more to come....

My friends instantly asked where were the oh crap handles..
Tesla doesn't seem to do these. And I suspect that you'll see a number of manufacturers cutting back on them.
With the advent of side-impact air bags, there is a fight for that location.

I’d also be fine with a soft attachment right above the door opening. I believe I’ve seen on some vehicles like a Jeep.

I definitely don't disagree.

I hadn't thought about the side airbag until someone else brought it up recently. And it made a lot of sense to me.
I'm not sure, but it may be that at least some Jeeps don't offer the same level of protection, especially when the roof and doors are off, not sure where the airbag could go.

Interesting point. So I had to do a little research. They often are actually in the door or A column.

But the Tesla Cybertruck Service Manual wins.
It definitely appears as if the side curtain airbags monopolize the entire roof support member. (the light blue thing is the airbag)
