Tesla has completed an energy consumption filing for the Cybertruck with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Below is its energy consumption label and the Cybertruck is now classified as an M1 passenger vehicle in MIlT's database.

The path is being cleared for Cybertruck sales in China!

This is great news! Another 2 million reservations coming and will now take the crown as the best selling vehicle in the world!
You are right. I really feel that it is coming. CT will sell as many as they can make!

I am a bit leery if this will turn out to be a big deal. With import tariffs (and who knows what new retaliation tariffs will come after Jan 20) this will be an expensive vehicle. Yes lots of Chinese wealth but what’s the volume of $200K cars in China? Bentley sold 2880 cars in China in 2023.

Sure, but the Chinese know quality and the Cybertruck represents quality and prestige.

You can order today and pick one up within a month now in its first year. That 2 million didn't end up meaning anything. They are pulling a lot of demand levers earlier than most thought.

I assume you are being sarcastic w.r.t. Tesla vs. Bentley :) (of course... the Bentley is in another price class.) Hard to say how well this will do in China: luxury pickup trucks are not popular there like they are here.

618km is like 380mi.

Is range calculated differently with this Chinese agency?
See CLTC

https://insideevs.com/features/3432...nflicting-ev-range-test-cycles-epa-wltp-nedc/
To get a sense of how the ranges of cars correlate under the different testing regimes, we looked at a number of cars sold in all of the main territories — US, Europe, and China — and compared their EPA, WLTP, and CLTC ratings, as well as a couple only sold in Europe and China. Interestingly, one vehicle is advertised on its website with discontinued NEDC rating: the Xpeng P7.

The results were pretty eye-opening. The percentage of difference between official range figures varied widely by automaker, and sometimes also widely between models from the same automaker. The upshot is there's not really a reliable way to compare the test cycles with any precision.

As a rule of thumb, though, consider the EPA figure to be the most realistic with only a few percentage points difference from what one might see in real-world conditions. The WLTP figure to be about 22 percent higher than EPA, and the CLTC number about 35% higher than EPA. CLTC also appears to be a few percentage points higher than NEDC.
A couple of examples from Tesla:

MS 100D Range (EPA) 335 mi
MS 100D Range (EPA) 539 km
MS 100D Range (NEDC) 632 km
MS 100D Range (NEDC) 393 mi
MS 100D Range (WLTP) 632 km

MX 100D Range (EPA) 475 km
MX 100D Range (EPA) 295 mi
MX 100D Range (NEDC) 351 mi
MX 100D Range (NEDC) 565 km
MX 100D Range (WLTP) 565 km

In China, it's important for the CT to be classified as a passenger vehicle, not as a pickup truck. Historically, China has not been a good market for consumer pickups. In the US/Canada, pickups are generally treated similarly to cars/SUVs, but in China pickups are treated like larger trucks, with more restrictive rules. Tesla is aware of these issues, and it's possible that the Cybertruck may undergo some redesign/rebranding for China, to make it more SUV-like and less truck-like.
In late January, Tesla toured the Cybertruck in several Chinese cities, emphasizing at the time that it was a crossover touring vehicle in an attempt to downplay its pickup truck character.

“Getting Cybertruck road legal in China would be very difficult, but we could ship some prototypes over for display,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on January 14 on X, the social media platform he owns.

Musk didn't mention specific legal hurdles, but pickups are categorized as light trucks in China and are subject to many restrictions compared to passenger car models including sedans, SUVs (sport utility vehicles), and MPVs (multi-purpose vehicles), making sales low. ...

On Chinese highways, pickup truck models are not allowed to exceed 100 kilometers per hour. Regular passenger cars can legally travel up to 120 kilometers per hour on highways.

Pickup trucks in China are also required to be used for no more than 15 years and need to be scrapped at the end of that time.

In addition, many Chinese cities have restrictions on pickup trucks entering urban areas, although these restrictions have been reduced over the past few years.

At 22.6 kWh per 100km, that's 363 Wh per mile, which is within reason.

But if that's the tested efficiency figure, then a 618km range implies a pack size of 139 kWh!

Wow, the metric system really is better
