Hello Guys and girls

Me and my wife relocated from Denmark to Houston in april and as my office is closed in december and i can work from "Anywhere" I hear... we are planning a roadtrip..... ;-)

The plan is to pickup our kids in Las Vegas December 14, and my nephew in Austin december 21 to have christmas toghether in Houston.

We will try to leave from Houston (my wife and me) going to Dallas, Oklahoma, Amarillo, Albuquerque, flagstaff and end in Las Vegas dec 14, and we have not decided on the details for the trip to Vegas yet, but that is depending on when we leave and how much we would like to experience on the way.... all suggestions are welcome ;-)

on the return track we will go over Hoover dam to Grand Canyon west, to Tuscon(Pima air museum), Wilcox, Ocoma, Austin and Houston

I will track what i think is interesting on the usage and milage side, charging times etc, if there is anything specific you want to know let me know and i will track this as well.

Our priorities will be to the extent possible find hotels with L2 charging and/or close to Tesla chargers (in my experience they Tesla SC are still cheaper than most L2 charging but i have very little experience in US L1/L2 charging) so already now the stats from ABRP will be off, but still gives an idea of the project and charging times.

If possible i would also like to test the CT in some Offroad conditions but dont have much time on the return trip through Arizona where i have found some really cool trails so if there is some god tips let me know.

I expect to travel on the STD AT tires and bring snow chains as backup if we hit some really harsh conditions .... it seems especially New Mexico there is fair chances of snow.

let me know if you have anything you want me to track and any god suggestions to what to see, especially on the trip to Vegas

The first day i experienced 4 disengagements of fsd due to heavy spray/rain and got the starlink up and running for the trip 🤘🤘🤠
Today we drove on to Oklahoma where we saw the FAM museeum with the indian history and the meeting with the europeans which i offcourse recognice is not OK but i terribly missed the native American human development and history as this is very sparse in Europe….. and US 😃

That sounds like an exciting road trip! When my family and I did a long drive through Florida, we wanted a mix of adventure and relaxation for the kids, so we stayed at places where we could experience a bit of the outdoors without it being overly rugged. It wasn’t on your route, but the Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo is a spot I’d recommend if you’re ever exploring Florida. They’ve got glamping options with all the comforts and some great family-friendly activities like rodeos and more. You can check full resort info for details if you’re curious.

So finally made it back with some numbers for you
We totaled 3637 miles on the trip and averaged 487 Wh/mi.
We charged around 85% on Tesla SC and 15% on other chargers (destination) on hotels.
We totaled around 661.3USD for the charging and had a few nights where we charged for free.
The cost totaled 0.18USD/mi, i calculate me wifes Jeep Grand Cherokee L to around 0.14USD/mi (21mpg and 3USD/G) so unfortunately and to me a little disappointing more expensive than ICE.
The SC was most expensive in Las Vegas, NV with 0.5-0.55 USD/kwh
the SC was cheapest at Dripping springs TX with 0.27USD/kwh
The destination charging was ranging from free to 0.6USDUSD/kwh so you really need to be carefull it can impact your budget quite a lot where you charge - not free anymore like the good old days :-(
but still a fantastic roadtrip, the FSD supported however i fight a lot as i have glasses and it does not always register my eyes on the road even when i am looking fwd causing some unjustified disengagements.
