Thanks for organizing a Cybertruck wish list. We bought a Model X primarily because it provides HEPA level cabin air filtration which is necessary for us because of my wife's asthma which caused her hospitalization during the 2018 wildfire smoke levels on the west coast. For us to travel confidently in our new Cybertruck, we will need equivalent air filtration in case unhealthy air conditions develop wherever we are. Otherwise, travel is quite risky for her and would limit our options because the Model X is not an appropriate vehicle for some of our rougher destinations.

I still think the Tri Motor and the Plaid version might be two different packages. The difference might be software but I could easily see that that could cost more. The tri motor has never been called "plaid" by Must just that he would drive a Plaid cybertruck.
The plaid will definitely have 4 motors and a racing package as well as extra off-road

Option: Tow package with integrated brake controller
Option: Winter package (heated seats and steering wheel)
Option: Solar tonneau cover (already confirmed)
Option: Premium interior
Option: Premium sound


Standard: No tow hitch
Standard: No heated seats or steering wheel


So many intended Cybertruck owners are not "pickup truck" people. Rather, these owners will demand comfort and aesthetics. Thick carpets, heated seats and steering wheel, and high-end audio are just the beginning.

I think the options are going to be extremely limited. Tires, interior material and FSD will be it. Go build your own custom S on the Tesla website, there arent many options to choose from....

One thing I haven't seen discussed is the ability to mount a snowplow on CT, important for us who live in the northern tier of the US, and Canada. This is not a factory option, but I wonder how this can be accomplished given that aftermarket snowplows are designed to mount to the ladder frame found on traditional pickups.
Wow…grew up on 40 ac. ¼ mile offroad. I would get up early, start a Dodge Powerwagon, go back eat, then knock out the road to the highway to get to school.

No CT would I expect to withstand the snow loads that Powerwagon plowed into. It always needed re-welding to make it thru a winter.

I agree, but I wonder if they will option down the CT to meet the price points that were announced.

Hell, you can't get new $40k pickup truck with four doors with standard anything! My neighbor just bought a Ram 1500, 4wd, 4 door, for $55k plus taxes. Basically $60k. Ouch.

If all goes as past experience of others, when you get the call to confirm your reservations, options before manufacturing they will ask if you want to upgrade your powerplant.

If you have single motor reserved they may even call you before those are made to up sell you to a dual or tri-motor if they are building those for shipment into your geographical zone. So you could get your truck before your theoretical due date.

Unlikely. Tesla likes to keep the menu simple, so there aren't so many drive train models available. Remember, they're doing fast iteration, so that means they are making different versions every time a new part comes available. The more models you have is a multiplier to that complexity.

Which is why Tesla no longer has drive train and batteries as separate options. Simplifies this by alot.

Here is something I had forgotten since the reveal. I remember reading the original Motortrend article soon afterwards. In that article it says the Trimotor is the Plaid version.

“Tesla doesn't publish horsepower figures anymore, but we estimate up to 690 hp and 824 lb-ft of torque combined from the twin motors in the Raven powertrain. The future three-motor Plaid powertrain will certainly find its way into the Cybertruck, and it could put out an estimated 800 hp and 1000 lb-ft of torque. Like all Teslas, the Cybertruck's motors are backed by a one-speed automatic. Feeding the motors is Tesla's "latest" battery technology, of which the company has shared little. The standard battery pack is mounted underneath the cab, just forward of the roll-up tonneau cover's storage compartment (beneath the pickup bed floor), and offers about 300 miles of claimed range. A new, double-stacked battery will give a tri-motor Cybertruck up to 500 miles of range. A base single-rear motor Cybertruck will have up to 250 miles of range. Construction of the prototype is "unibody-on-frame" in the same vein as the new Land Rover Defender, but the production Cybertruck will be pure unibody.”

It's a safe bet that when any new car, truck, or SUV gets introduced, it's built with future powertrains and technologies in mind. The new Tesla Cybertruck electric pickup will be no exception to that rule. Although the Cybertruck prototype rolled out sporting Tesla's current latest-and-greatest Raven powertrain, Tesla chief Elon Musk told us that the Cybertruck was being built with the company's future Plaid powertrain in mind. This powertrain could prove revolutionary in the pickup segment.

Before we delve too deeply into Plaid, a quick look at Raven. Tesla's Raven powertrain, as seen in the Model S and Model X, utilizes the automaker's latest motor technology to up both efficiency and power. The current batch of Raven-powered Teslas utilize a Model 3 rear motor mounted up front making around 275 hp and 503 lb-ft of torque and a Model S/X motor in back making about 310 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque. We estimate combined output for the powertrain to be about 690 hp and 824 lb-ft of torque—Tesla, for whatever reason, doesn't disclose power outputs for the Model S or Model X.

Given how little we know about Raven, a powertrain that's already out and purchasable today, details on Plaid are even more scarce. What we do know is that the powertrain first made its debut in the 2020 Tesla Roadster prototype, and it can currently be found in a Model S prototype that's living at the Nürburgring as Tesla seeks to beat the Porsche Taycan's electric lap record at the track. At the Roadster's debut, Musk claimed that the Roadster made nearly 7,376 lb-ft of torque, though we're just as skeptical about that number as you no doubt are.

Plaid marks a departure for Tesla in that it's the automaker's first consumer-oriented vehicle with more than two motors (the Tesla Semi has four motors at each corner of its rear axles). A Plaid-powered Tesla Cybertruck, just like Plaid-powered Model S and Model X cars, will use three motors: one up front and two in back, with one at each rear wheel. Power output for the Cybertruck when equipped with the Plaid powertrain and a double-stacked battery will likely be around 800 hp and 1,000 lb-ft combined, based on previous claims about Plaid and the amount of power Teslas currently make.


More important than how much power the Plaid-powered Cybertruck could make are the advantages the three-motor setup could give the electric pickup off-road. With an electric motor at either rear wheel, the Cybertruck would essentially have a locking differential, ensuring traction in even the toughest of conditions. The twin motors could have other benefits. Since they can operate independently of each other, the motors could provide the Cybertruck with torque-vectoring on-road and off-road and also allow Tesla to either drag, or run one motor in reverse in sharp turns off-road to effectively lower the pickup's turning circle.

Things could only get better—and cooler—from there. Taking things a step further to a completely nonexistent-but-totally-plausible four-motor setup, Tesla could even copy the rival Rivian R1T's party piece: its 'tank' mode, where the front and rear axles turn opposite each other, allegedly allowing the R1T to literally turn on a dime off-road.

Ultimately, more is more when it comes to electric motors. More motors mean more power, more flexibility, and counterintuitively oftentimes more efficiency, too. Tesla's Raven-powered dual-motor Cybertruck might be the latest evolution of the electric motor, but Plaid and whatever's next could truly be revolutionary.

yeah, the ball is the ball, the hitch is the hitch. A truck comes standard with a hitch, and doesn't come with a ball, prob not even with a 'tow package' since ball requirements are very specific to your towage
