The new map is awesome! Thanks for doing that :) The extra angles on the data is really interesting to see! I have some minor notes of you're willing...

I saw you're missing some of the states In the map. Last I checked, only ND, WY, MS, and HI had 0 recorded orders.

I love that you are arranging the data by each ten-thousands groups. I wonder if that graph would be improved if it were arranged in order of RNs vs # of orders in each grouping? So, starting with RN11274 on the far left, then RN11275, 76 and so on. Would make it easier for someone like me to see how my 11281 group is doing, instead of having to search a bit.

Maybe somehow fold the numbers that only reveal 3 or 4 digits into the next group up that has 5 digits? Might clean up the look a bit. Just put RN112XXX and RN1127XXX into RN11274. Or remove the incomplete data for the sake of cleanliness.

I could see later on, as we're looking at a lot more orders, adjusting that graph to group by the first 4 digits vs the first 5. But 5 digit granularity for RN groups makes a lot of sense at the moment.

Anyway, blah blah blah, this is an awesome new thing to obsess over, thank you!

Also love that you got all of North America in there!

Oh, and Hawaii seems like it's rotated like 40 degrees clockwise 😀

I'm just building charts in Excel using the data the admin has put together on the Submitted Orders List
The map itself was auto-generated using some Bing/Maps functionality baked into Excel and it informed me it was done with "89% accuracy" so forgive discrepancies, I'm not going to try and modify what it is doing.

Cheers!

Cool, thanks for making it easy to see how the data is trending.
Only suggestion would be to leave a *last updated X date* at the bottom of the post so if people check in they have an idea how current the data is.

Because I like you and my OCD was going batty after you pointed it out, I figured it out. Excel has this "background error checking" option that was negating states whose 2 letter abbreviation was read as part of a formula and was omitting that cell data. I think I've fixed it, lemme know if you see anything else.

Added the "Last edited" thingy at the top. Map should be straight... Maybe I can get you a CT next? :p

Good suggestion and I've updated it to reflect this (generally... I didn't proofread, just changed to alphabetical so if someone entered a wonky number it's probably reflected in the order)

interesting break-out, thank you

basically, cash-wise people have chosen between:

(A) a beast with speed (and guaranteed $120K price at delivery), vs

(B) an AWD, with the future option to pay for more range (with $100K due at delivery, and if they choose in future to go through with the ER another $16K)

in other words, it’s not just “do you want speed or range”, it’s “do you want speed @ $120K now, or instead to spend only 100K now, but but pay $500 for an option to buy more range latter”

Low sample rate, but 2 surprises

1. The extremely high proportion of FSD orders. (Albeit to the mostly converted)

2. AWD Range extender outpacing TRI...
Figures the AWD has less range to start with, but those customers chose not to spend extra on TRI .. But have enough money for the RE.

Interesting to see the numbers after 100,000 sales. FSD(clearly) and RE(surprisingly) could be CT Gold.

My theory was that they were reaching out to people who were already gonna buy FSD because the FE value proposition was going to be easier to swallow, especially if you had already got past the upfront markup. At least that is how I justified the purchase to myself.

except for the strange bobble that people with locked in FSD are now as a result paying the most for Foundation units - it was only going to cost them $7K, but now they’re paying full freight

which to me suggests you weight towards pick people with FSD locked in, because that Foundation sale is worth ~$5K more to Tesla

if Tesla wanted to honor the FSD lock in price, all they had to do was give special Foundation pricing, at $95K or $115K, to folks with FSD price locked in

Clearly FSD isn’t the only metric in their decision, but if it’s weighted towards FSD it’s not clear to me that it’s entirely because it’s be easier to swallow. At best two birds one bush

After waiting 4 years, there's definitely the "I'll pay whatever you want, just give me the damn truck." I went thru this with the Model X, waited 3 years after deposit. Got a low VIN and sticker shock, when what we thought was gonna be $85k in 2013 turned out to be $120k in 2016. Couldn't wait to get the damn thing. 230k miles later and it's still kickin, worth every penny.
