Captured this last week driving on FSD Supervised last week in a light to moderate rain. Might be a helpful reference point for prospective purchasers since information like this wasn't available to me when I bought last year.

Yes, get a replaceable cover you will have to swap out every 90 days because Tesla could not give this proper attention.

If you think it's bad in light rain you should see what it's like in driving for even 90 seconds on winter roads that have been sprayed down with salt. The camera becomes completely unusable almost immediately and a hydrophobic cover won't do anything for that.

While it would have been an engineering challenge to provide a cleaning jet for the rear camera it certainly would have been doable, or alternatively a camera above the rear bed to provide some kind of back view if the tailgate camera becomes obscured.

Yup, when roads are salted and slushy all of the cameras, but especially the rear, become substantially occluded.

The mud flaps help cut down on the spray off the rear tires by quite a bit, but flying crud is flying crud. Agree a rear washer here would be helpful. Alternatively placing a rear camera pod on top of the roof, as I have on my Defender, mitigates the problem so much that it's not a problem at all and no sprayer is necessary. Tesla tried to use one camera for two purposes - backup camera and rearview camera - and it just doesn't work.

Just curious, as I dealt with beads of water distorting my rear view just last night on the way home from work. Is it possible to treat the lens cover on the rearview camera with RainX? Has anyone tried this, and was it effective? My only concern was is if there was a UV coating that could somehow be compromised by RainX, but wasn't sure.

I've put RainX on my windshield with no harm. I suspect it would be fine on the cameras but haven't tried it as of yet.
