It is pretty good. I wonder what all is under the rest of the bed that they were planning for.

I suspect some were hoping for a place to mount a 5th wheel hitch.

I previously discussed this from the info in the tonneau patent application, but this vault video is finally taken from an angle when someone pushes the button that shows it pretty conclusively:

the uppermost ~1/3rd of the vault is stored between the bed bulkhead and cab

watch the video a few times, and get a feel for the speed at which the tonneau moves - then note that the instant the guy pushes the button the tonneau lip jumps out of the sill below the rear window

this all jives with the language of the patent

No further nails needed in the midgate coffin

Looks like they dealt with water pretty good (deep trough and drain holes)...
from one side at least (ie. when accelerating and it was raining).

I like the dirty vault. Something about a 'real truck for people that do real work' comes to mind.

I also like the built in drain gutter around the top of the recessed storage under it's cover.

I bet this also makes it easy for them to element proof the tonneau cubby hole when it's open for transporting gravel and loose materials. I'm thinking the end of the tonneau cover seals the cubby hole in the retracted position. So whether it's closed or fully open, the passage is blocked from loose materials being able to fall in.

I swear they said there would be a 220v output, but this tiny little cover isn’t hiding that. My guess is it’ll be elsewhere. Perhaps in the frunk. I still think sail pillar area would be the best place for power. If there are sail pillar storage areas.

I live these tie down anchors, both nicely placed for either transporting low loads, along with a pair mounted where you can reach them from the outside of the truck. Super nice.

It would be nice if there was another in the center of the front vault wall, but this is pretty good.

Also great seeing the L tracks were kept. Lots of other truck makers only offer this as an upgrade.

yes exactly - the very same seal design that when closed seals the lip of the tonneau to the tailgate

Together with the “eave” over the rear window, this all keeps debris and water from eg running down the rear window into the channel/cavity below the bed where the remaining ~2/3 of tonneau is coiled.

Meanwhile, the tonneau lip being ready just below the rear window also permits of speed to operate. It would instead be a bit clunky and “slow” if you press the button and not until a second later did you see the tonneau finally emerge from cavity below the bed. (I forget the word for this is design/physical UI, but a delay between button push and visible action is not just slow, it leaves a poor impression on users.)
