If Cybertruck has a 3500lb cargo capacity, then at Class G it weighs no more than 5500lbs.
That would be the math and seemingly hard to believe but I suppose the lack of a steel ladder frame shaves weight there.

Also I need to correct my post above that I pulled the wrong configuration off the Ford site and the SCrew GVWR is in the low- to mid-7000 lb range. My bad.

As required by law, VIN information published within 60 days of customer sales (customers in this case being internal customers).

Example for Dual Motor Cybertruck (with an x for check digit and assuming the Dual Motor Standard is Class G and the tri motor is Class H):

Digit 5: Chassis/Cab Type
B = Day Cab
E = Truck - LHD

Digit 6: Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)
E = Class 8 – Greater than 14968 kg. (33,001 lbs. and over)
G = Class G – Greater than 3629 kg. to 4082 kg. (8,001-9,000 lbs.)
H = Class H – Greater than 4082 kg. to 4536 kg. (9,001-10,000 lbs.)

Digit 7: Fuel Type
E = Electric

Digit 8: Motor/Drive Unit/Braking System
B = Dual Drive Rear Axle, Air Brakes (Designated for Semi)
D = Dual Motor – Standard (Designated for Cybertruck)
E = Triple Motor – Performance (Designated for Cybertruck)

Digit 9: Check Digit
To be assigned by manufacturer pursuant to 49 CFR § 565.15(c).

And now verbal release of production :LOL:

Just as you said.. the GVWR includes both the vehicle weight and the cargo/passengers. So if the Dual motor weighs 5k lbs and a 3500 lbs cargo capacity its GVWR is 8500lbs (class G), but the Tri motor weighs 5900 lbs and a 3500lbs cargo capacity then it is a class H with a GVWR of 9400lbs. That was my point.
... the weight of the Dual is probably high 8,000's
Your statement was unclear, thank you for clarifying.

The 3mm steel panels will certainly add some heft, but the castings and structural pack should make this one of the lighter trucks, certainly the lightest BEV truck.

How heavy is paint? 🤔

Tesla needs to use the CyberTruck to release subscription based FSD per user. That way I can buy this damn thing and get the tax benefit and still get FSD on the side after the initial purchase.

So, please correct me if I'm wrong here, but being a pessimist and assuming they only got a 3,000lb payload we get this for min/max curb weights.

Digit 6: Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)

G = Class G – Greater than 3629 kg. to 4082 kg. (8,001-9,000 lbs.)
H = Class H – Greater than 4082 kg. to 4536 kg. (9,001-10,000 lbs.)

Dual Motor somewhere between 5,001lbs and 6,000lbs.
Tri motor somewhere between 6,001 and 7,000lbs.

Like per user instead of per car? That's unlikely lol

Whatever form they want to do it. As long as I can buy the vehicle with the tax break. Cause I’m fortunate enough to have a decently early preorder number.

I'm going to pose a different reason for the two weight ratings.
It's not for motors or battery differences.

It's so Tesla can spring a Heavy Duty version on us!

Yup... Opt for the Tri-Motor HD Cybertruck and get more robust A-arms, Air Bladders, etc... AND, the Cargo capacity goes up by 2,000 pounds.

I mean, the Cargo capacity of an F-250 is right at 2,000# more than an F-150.

Could Tesla be making a "One vehicle to rule them all"?

So which configuration will the first deliveries be - tri-motor, dual-motor, or both?

I still think payload is gonna be 2500lbs instead of 3500 and that there will be one pack size.
If I’m right that would put the 3 motor around 9150lbs GVWR - 2500 = 6650lbs which is a great weight for a vehicle like this and seemingly much more dynamically controllable in emergency maneuvers as a percentage of overall weight. Great payload rating for this size vehicle as well.
Do we know how much a 120-125kWh pack “should” weigh?

It wouldn't because of weight. The rules it has to be below 14,000 lbs for $7,500 credit. We are a long ways from that still.

Link in the original post. Tesla is required by law to submit VIN decoder info within 60 days from initial sales. This was posted to the NHTSA by Tesla on 8/23/2023, but just finally showed up on the public database today. I've been checking regularly in anticipation.
Thank you!
