Reddit thread here:

OK -
  1. Why did Tesla sell a whistle?
  2. Is it possible for an EV to be used as a boat?
  3. 4 Wheel steering and 4 motors? I'm wondering what that configuration would be useful for. Steering and propulsion in the water?
  4. Elon wasn't making a joke. He was at the water testing grounds for the new truck.
  5. Where did the initial inspiration for this truck come from?
  6. He even said, "it floats". (Thanks moonpumper)
  7. They did build this interesting feature into their China test track.
Thoughts?

I think I can see it being possible. Elon doesnt pull any punches and I think he wants to make this thing stand out from the crowd even more than it does from its looks. I can see it. I mean, we may be getting laser windshield wipers so nothing is off the table but cant wait til next earnings call.

Because we NEED 4 motors and a Cellphone that (somehow, everyone believes, but no one has actually explained how) works on Mars.

I think it's real, sort of. They'll design it to ford a river/stream/swamp/pond. It won't be a boat, but they'll have some cool videos of it crossing water. Basically like Jeeps and old hummers used to show off their water crossing ability, the Cybertruck will trump that and float across a very small body of water.

I Don't want a floating Cybertruck

Tesla Cybertruck Cybertruck will be amphibious. maxresdefault
I would prefer to go in a straight line to the other side, and not on an unplanned crocodile adventure.

This theory does explain Elon's cryptic tweets of the last few weeks. That said, it's a dumb idea. Most (not all!) water crossings involve flowing water, and if Tesla encourages people to drive into water, we're going to be hearing lots of stories of cybertrucks getting swept away and people killed.

Hoping that doesn't happen.

Early reservation numbers should test for us 6 digit reservation numbers. Nothing nefarious with the comment.

Breaking News… Man goes over Niagara Falls in a barrel Cybertruck.
Hope that does not happen.

The Cybertruck driver after driving back on to river's shore at the bottom of the falls would get a tickets for not having a boat pilot license & no boat registration.

Later the Cybertruck driver would get sued by New York State and Canada for damaging the rocks at the bottom of the falls.
