I recently cleaned the glass under the glare shield. I also used this opportunity to very carefully clean the camera lens using a lens cleaning kit. About a week out now and no dry wipes. It could be coincidence but there is a chance the cleaning of the camera lens (or whatever covers the lens) has helped. Or not. Might help. Might not Good luck to us all.

Too much of a gamble for the novice. I have removed my cameras and cleaned them as well. It did NOT stop the dry wipes.
I removed my cameras and cleaned them while changing my rearview mirror to a camera based rear view. It wasn't easy nor would I recommend doing it for a novice. Sometimes you have to reconfigure the cameras.

I just cleaned the front of the camera that is easily accessed. I’m not sure if it is the actual lens or just a cover (like on our phones). I agree you should be careful though. I used lens cleaning fluid and lens cleaning tissue and a very gentle hand. Again, I cannot with any certainty say it helped or it was dirty in the first place. But I was there and thought I’d give it a shot!

Often times FSD will initiate the wiper instantly upon activation. Sometimes you have a few seconds to turn it off though. But not always.
Hmm doesnt happen for me. It will occasionally randomly dry wipe when on auto and on fsd

While taking out the trash this morning I noticed this condensation on the windshield right in front of the of the front camera. I wonder if this might contribute to the wipes - not only the condensation itself but perhaps accumulated dirt there? You wouldn’t be able to see the condensation or the accumulated dirt from the inside. Just spitballing.

Wonder if throwing a desiccator in there would help.

I pretty sure the condensation is on the outside of the truck. At least I sure hope it is. If there were something to prevent the fogging due to outgassing, that would be helpful (on the inside of the truck).

I"ve had some off-gassing issues too. It's mostly garaged and in WA so sun is not super extreme minus Summer. I just spent some time out in the sun due a near by wildfire that forced evacuation so I was in full sun for 4-5 days. The dry wipes and constant UI alerts about front facing camera got irritating.
The glare shield least on the foundation is fairly brittle plastic if anyone attempts to clean this themselves. Having a Hansshow mirror I didn't want to mess with a Service Center on this.
Putting the glare shield back in I took my time. Still managed to see both tabs fall on the floor board and as I removed it the back little hinge tabs they have were starting to break.
Tip: Do not use super glue - even more off-gassing and its not worth it.. I temp put mine up with some UV Tape until I can get a replacement part in, but this is like $48 shipped.

I feel like this needs a little redesign to make it more serviceable or switch plastics so its not so fragile.

Back tabs

Per service manual -(Mine does not look like this)

Least to me, the back little hinge deals should just be a plastic fin that goes into a lip or something. They are super prone to cracking. The 2 tabs in the front didn't even survive putting it back up and it's not like I was muscling it around.

Mine occasionally will trigger immediately on FSD faster than whether you use voice or clicks. Also you will forget. Normalizing this BS isnt the answer. This is the worst f*kng thing about this vehicle. Ima gonna call Elon.

One quick shortcut that seems to be working (if you remember to use it), bring up the windshield menu prior to turning on FSD. Turn on FSD. Use the left scrollwheel down to turn windshield menu option to Off. that is the fastest method so far. I get so mad if it's faster. its not a good game.

it is literally a major risk imo, for if you are driving into the sun on sunrise, you turn on FSD cos you can't see from the sunglare, then the stupid thing wipes, and you literally lose all visibility, and then FSD can't see either and disconnects. Bam, you're dead. Not that dire, but it COULD happen.

I still haven’t had any dry wipes since my cleaning under the glare shield - but in the sunny morning from the opposite side of the truck, I noticed I did a poor job cleaning the window. I could see definite room for improvement so I will likely do it again tomorrow morning. Wish me luck.

as mentioned above, it is a delicate operation - especially with the Hansshow mirror. I managed not to break anything last time and I’ll set aside an hour to do it. But this time I will look at the glass from the outside from all angles before reassembly. I wonder if applying Rain X to the window on the inside would do any good… prob not and might make it worse…

I got my new Glare Shield in and went super slow putting it in and had success.
Glass is clear, no dry wipe, or glare alerts so far.
