I am in a position to order an FSCT. I am concerned that the cost of NFSCT trucks (-$20,000) will absolutely crater the resale value of FSCT’s, especially if FSD continues to only be $99/month and there continues to be so many delays with the promised FS package components. Ive seen so many here who have been waiting for years for their truck have to pass on the FS trucks for those same reasons.

Some naysayers are predicting the FSCT’s wont be worth much more than $60-70k by the end of the year, which i doubt, but definitely well under $100,000 once NFS Beasts start selling for 99k, and people can claim the tax break on the dual motor…

How do you all think fs trucks will depreciate in a year or so?

No way of knowing. But $60-70k at year end seems unlikely as it still won’t be readily available and a lot of people want one.

I’m planning to hang onto it for as long as I can, and I am going to assume a few thousand in either direction won’t bother me in nearly a decade. Short term, who knows what markets will do. “non-fs” won’t be worth much either in the year 2032 when the drivetrain warranty is up either. (And again, is not apples to apples because the 79 variant won’t be fully loaded

You are absolutely correct my friend, given the history of Tesla continuing to lower prices to be competitive, there is no doubt that the truck will have a higher percentage of depreciation among all the other models. That foundation series people spent $120k or $100k on will be the regular price by next year for sure. As they keep mass producing the CT, the prices will only get cheaper. I’ve owned 3 Teslas and got lucky during COVID when car prices were actually up. I also work for an online auction and have seen the volatility is EV’s but now everything is down and continues to decrease. You can pretty much steal Teslas now from Hertz. Waiting on the regular version of the CT is a no brainer. $80k, possible $7,500 federal tax credit, more upgrades or options, less production mistakes, and possible promotion for financing again like they just had with the model Y. Yeah I can wait a little longer and save thousands.

All vehicles depreciate. The people that bought these are the die hard that can afford it and most likely aren’t looking to sell it next year or anytime soon. We all saw the prices of the vehicles if you waited for non-FS and made our decision. I don’t understand what the debate is about. We still don’t know what fully-loaded means so until we see the first Non-FS roll out, plus cost of options, there’s even less of a sense to worrying about value loss.

If you are worried about depreciation, that’s probably a sign that you should wait. The Foundation series is for us foolish junkies that don’t care about depreciation and just want it now. Waiting will 100% be cheaper and suffer less depreciation. I am selling my Model X for less than I want right now because the same car I bought for ~120k, you can get for ~$99k brand new. Tesla also makes improvements faster than other manufacturers, which results in faster “perceived” depreciation as well.

The truck is awesome, but if you are worried, then wait. I doubt you will regret waiting, but you may regret buying.

Worth doing some homework on the tax credit. Heard someone say they didn’t qualify for it because of income.

Depreciation is a non-factor to us. I've only traded in one vehicle that had any reasonable level of remaining value.
That said, if we did sell, we would still gain some value from FSD and lifetime connectivity. Plus the Powershare installation that stays with our house.

Only non-Foundation AWD and RWD are under the MSRP cap for the personal Clean Vehicle Credit. However, it is yet to be determined if the battery itself qualifies under the 2024 onward criteria.

Commercial Clean Vehicle Credit has no such limitations.

Of course it's going to depreciate. It's more akin to a computer on wheels than a conventional ICE vehicle. And everyone knows how rapidly computing devices lose value.

Much sooner than most people imagine, EV's in general - and the Cybertruck in particular - are going to be lots better than those being sold today. (Among other things, I'll point out that the 4680 has been a very large disappointment for Tesla and that may very well prompt a move towards a different battery chemistry/architecture... sooner than you think).

So what. We've lived in that should-I-buy-now-or-should-I-wait world for a long time with computing stuff. This is no different. You can dither forever waiting for the next new, better thing. Or you can buy the thing, enjoy it, and get on with life.

The Foundation Series will depreciate a bit more than the soon-to-be non-Foundation Cybertrucks. But here's the thing... the longer you hang onto a vehicle, the less that matters.

For either.

Can you wait till 2026/27 ? That is the answer to your question… but things to consider that it’s not 20K it’s probably 5-6K up charge if you evaluate forceful package value … will you pay 5-6K extra if someone says I will get you CT today .. or wait for 2-3 years

PLUS

The day I got my CT, I forgot about that up charge so quickly ... what a TRUCK !!! I am so glad I got it .. I love my CT ... you will too ... how many things have you done in your life just for yourself and not for family or others ..... GIFT IT .. to yourself ... hahaha

I’ve decided I am going to get it, and not worried about the extra cash. FSD could be ALOT more expensive in two years if they get closer to unsupervised. But the reality is that is an extra $300 a month in monthly payments if I go 100k vs 80k. I don’t qualify for the tax credit and get NO extra things with 80k AWD. So for 100k I get lots of things including FSD for not much more a month (for us), and I get the truck 2-3 years earlier.. and my life is at a stage with young kids where I could REALLLY use the utility of the truck now. So easy call

Also I plan on keeping it for a long time (so depreciation doesn’t worry me)…. Really my only concern is being an early-ish build and the growing pains of a ln early adopter.. that is my bigger fear is getting one with a lot of problems like a few have had
