I picked up my CT in late March. I initially financed through Wells Fargo, until I had time to move some money around. I had it payed off in April. Just today I was going through some documents and realized that I have never received my title from Tesla. Did anyone else finance and then pay it off immediately? If so, how long did it take to get your title? If you did not finance at all, did you get your title at signing?

This all depends on state. Here In NY, Tesla registers the vehicle for the customer upon taking delivery, and then New York State mails me the title directly. I received my title within 2-3 weeks after delivery.

Cash purchase vs financing doesn't make a difference as far as i know, at least here in NYS.

Wouldn’t Wells Fargo have your title of you initially financed through them? I financed my CT and it took 2-3 months for my bank to receive the title, they sending me threatening letters saying they could cancel my loan and I was driving around unregistered because Tesla was that slow.

I didn't finance mine, but the title still comes from the State (DMV, MVD or whatever they're calling themselves today). It took about 2 1/2 weeks to receive. The plate and registration showed up within a day or so of the title.

My plate was on the truck at delivery.

In FL DMV has the title until you request it. Beings you financed it, there is a “lean” on it, bank should send you and DMV a copy of the lean release paper once paid off.. You can contact the bank and have them send you another one. With the lean release the DMV will either print on the spot a title ( for a fee ) or snail mail you one. They won’t send it without you requesting it tho.

Wells Fargo should have your title. And just a heads up I had a similar situation with my ‘21 M3P. When I paid it off early and contacted Wells Fargo to let them know I was going to do so and get the correct pay off total I advised them that I had moved. I made it clear to them that I needed to ensure that they mailed my title to the new address. They of course failed to do that and as a result I had to get a duplicate replacement from the DMV in my state.

Wells Fargo is a garbage bank and their customer service is pathetic. So, this has nothing to do with Tesla, it may or may not have anything to do with your DMV. Your quest begins with Wells Fargo and getting a manager on the phone.

May God be with you and have mercy upon your soul.

After a bit of research I found that the title was issued to me electronically and that no paper title is sent unless specifically requested and paid for. I guess this has been a thing is Arizona for a while but I had always been paying the $4 extra to have paper titles mailed to me. My title was actually issued 2 days after my payoff!

Interesting, that’s news to me I’ve always gotten a paper title here in Arizona I didn’t even know a digital was an option.

Looks like AZ doesn't automatically send a paper copy of your title, you need to 1) make sure your finance company has released the loan and then 2) get a paper copy from MVD.
