When backing up, the reverse light power turns on a solenoid that blocks brake fluid from getting to the brakes. Energizing this circuit should be easy for them to integrate into the CT
I didn't know about that as I was advised to be sure to unplug the light harness before backing into the water in order to keep the brake light bulbs (yes, my trailers are old enough that they have bulbs) from cracking when they hit the water, Given that the run to the ramp from the boat storage shed is a whole 0.4 mi along a private road (wouldn't dare take them out onto the highway) I just don't bother to ever plug them in.

Anyway there are certainly things a motivated manufacturer who wanted to make a controllable surge brake could do with valves and orifices but that sort of flies at the concept of a surge brake which is designed to be dirt simple. And there are also things you yourself could do with the brake signal from the CT's internal controler. I'm not going to suggest anything for what I hope are obvious reasons.
