It's playground stuff. If you can't beat em, change the rules.

Cars designed to do this are being told to sandbag bs modified cars.
The way I understood it was that the Rivian didn't have the proper safety equipment (Roll bar etc.) to go faster than 14 second (with passenger), 12 second (original limit) or 10 second (changed limit) quarter mile. Not sure if the 12 second was a real limit, or just what the one guy assumed.

Yup, it is safety equipment requirements because of the higher speeds in very short distances now possible in a road legal family car !!
Some tracks require very fast vehicles to have drag chutes for stopping.

Rivian is not the first EV with this issue. For last 9 months, Tesla Model S Plaids used at many drag strip tracks have been sandbagging many of their runs to be just fast enough to beat the competitor but slow enough not to exceed track safety rules.

But the Rivian and Tesla have higher roof crush than some roll cages. They are shipped with this capability in mind.

The rules were created for home-suped-up-cars, not stock, which would exceed their original designs.

Speed doesn't kill, its the rapid deceleration thst does. Why are their tracks so unsafe? They should all probably have a longer runoff to stop seeing that off the shelf cars can now exceed the capacity of the track.

But roll cage and parachute still improve vehicle safety. More is better when it comes to safety.
