Has anyone else experienced the heat in their truck being very weak or lukewarm?

Most of the time my truck is warm and seems to stay at the temperature that I have set, but there have been two instances where the cabin is lukewarm and it seems drafty because there’s not much heat coming through the vents, even though the heater is “working.” In addition the screen will go from warming up to “Max heating” and then the heat pump / fan will make a significantly louder almost hollow sound.

Then upon driving the vehicle later, it’s fine. Do you guys think I have a bad heat pump?

Make sure your rear vents are off (if they’re not needed) and that it’s on recycle air.

Also, AC should be on. It means air-conditioning not “cooling” so it’s dehumidifying when you have “AC” on you’re going to get your best performance - maybe counterintuitively with “AC” on. (My personal experience and according to chat).

Lastly, I don’t know what the temperature is set to I’m sure you have it set to high but if not make sure weird weirdly and differently from any other car that I have I don’t actually get heat unless I have my cybertruck higher than 73 (kind of irrespective of the outside temperature - for example if it’s 65° outside 70 doesn’t really give me what feels like heat in my cybertruck). Maybe there’s something wrong with mine, but thought I’d mention it.

Good thinking! I forgot about looking in the service menu. I’ll be sure to do this the next time it occurs.
Thx. NOTE that I mentioned you should go in their and take pictures of normal operations so that you have something to compare it to when you think it is not working.

Mine is making that EXACT same sound. My heat seems adequate, but that sound of air blowing around in a hollow tin can is driving me nuts. It’s very loud in the cabin and doesn’t seem to improve much by lowering fan speed or changing settings.

What’s super weird is that before this weekend I’ve never heard that sound before despite using it in these frigid temps for several months. If it always sounded that way I’d still be annoyed but probably not concerned. Strange that it seemed to show up suddenly.

My service mode did have an alert that self corrected for “Compressor Inhibited - low suction pressure”. I have no idea if that is related or just a coincidence.

Also interesting, our Model Y makes a similar sound sometimes but it goes away if you turn on recirculate. Doing that in the truck doesn’t change it. Someone else mentioned turning AC on, I’ll give that a try later.

That sounds like a problem worth getting checked out.

So I leave my climate at 68 degrees and automatic and it works great. On cold days it immediately pumps out hot air the second I jump in, on warm days it pumps out cold air the second I jump in, without touching the climate controls, still on 68 degrees and auto........ I have a strange feeling that's how the heat pump was designed to work and mine does. I'm in upstate New York, where it has been way below freezing for a month now.......VIN in the 18,000 range pickup my beast up 31June 2024........

I know that sound and I know exactly what your problem is. I’ll bet dollars to donuts that your passenger seat is on and set to cool. It could be yours I’m just guessing that you would recognize the seat being cold and have figured it out.

I’ll bet dollars to donuts that I’m right. Those fans are loud and annoying and they make you think you’re losing your mind when one is on and you don’t know it. Please check and let me know.

All of our Teslas are the same with almost instant heat so that is why I posted because it is out of th norm. MY CT has been fine all winter, but started doing this about 2 weeks ago.

My VIN is pretty early and around 2000 so I'll just schedule something if it occurs again.

Thanks everyone for your input and experiences.

My truck did it for a few days and now is back to normal. Very weird. Not sure how/why but can’t replicate anymore. It was a noticeable change. Glad it resolved.

So my original issue has occurred a few more times now and it seems to trigger when it's very cold. This happed yesterday and then again this morning where temps are in the single digits.

I use the app to pre-heat and when I get into my truck the system gets stuck on the "max heating" setting even if the temperature is set to 72.

The heat is on but is lukewarm and stays at full blast with that strange compressor noise.

If I toggle the system off and then restart it sometimes goes back to normal (i.e. I have tried going into service mode but I do this the heater shuts off and then when I turn it back on it's ok so I can't see the readings when it's occurring.)

Anyway, just wanted to provide an update on this anomaly and see if anyone else is experiencing this now that it's frigid across the US.
