Ford is already giving out production dates for those who reserved Lightning pick up.

Feb 2021 reservations are promised August production.

  • Styling that's as bland as a glass of diet ice water
  • Dealership markups
  • A slow charging massively heavy battery + a terrible charging network
  • Weak range
  • A slow build rate that will miss all of their goals, meaning most
will be disappointed with their wait
  • Last generation wire-jumble engineering
  • Paying for eventual dashboard upgrades like map updates or UI features (if they even bother to update them). And then, having to schedule a service appointment with a dealer and wait all day for them to "install" it.
I won't even go into the stuff that make me turn my nose up in relation to off-roading.

So, nah... I'm good. I'll wait. I've had enough of the Old School.

Umm.

The first customer deliveries in August? (EDIT: nm original launch said mid 2022)

So after all the brew-ha over Tesla being so late, it’s entirely possible Ford is only delivering 4-6 months ahead of them?

But Ford says they had 200K orders in December?

Who are these orders that are getting skipped over?

I'm confused. I thought the order books opened last summer.

They opened pre-orders in 2021. In February, they opened up their configuration tool for the first customers. Deliveries apparently start in August (according to this).

Oh, so these are the people from the configurator, not the wait list.

A little digging and it’s not really clear. Seems like some people are expecting theirs soon? I’m not sure what this August date is. Maybe earlier orders will be shipped but these dates are for people who are placing orders today?

Although none of us can raise any issue with your points, I think we can all be envious that some people going to get their BEV trucks. Every time I see a Rivian I am a bit jealous, not that I want one, but that it reminds me of what will come someday and someday being much further off than I would like. I am sure I will feel the same about the Lightning. Hell, I was even a bit envious of the first Mach-e that I saw and there are few things about that BEV that I like. So I get the OPs position 100% and I agree with you too.

The more I see it the more I think its a viable option. Before the CT came out I was going to get a F150...so I'm already biased towards it I suppose.

Even better news is that the F150 is coming to Australia straight from Ford again, instead of a importer and steering wheel side converter. That leaves the door open for the Lightning as well. Just the range makes it a bit hard out in the sticks.

I priced out the base Ford F150 EV. $42,000 with a 230 mile range. I can wait a little longer for my Cybertruck

Love this pissing contest.

On the other side, Lightning fans call us here hopeful Godots of CT vaporware.

But I must concede, Ford will be first in market (important for us marketing practitioners for this leader in the truck category) with the coming out of the product to be date certain and Ford communicating with it's waiting customers with official updates.

We'll see how many they're able to make. So far this year they've delivered as many mach-e's as they did last year. A good sign.

But Ford dithered on announcing the Lightning until a year and a half after the Cybertruck.

Kinda, would they have done it had there been no impending competition?

Interesting, maybe a route to get a right hand drive one here.
