I think this is a really cool idea. somebody else posted about it before. You'd have to be careful as there are electronics and plastic bits behind the doors etc. Ideally you'd heat treat before assembly!

Yeah. Bake the shell on assembly line then dip it in a tank of oil! There's your black steel ct!

Instead of a painting step, give us a heat coloring step. 4 color options translate to 4 bake temps.

One of the big reasons for stainless was to *eliminate* steps in manufacturing. Zero chance they are going to add them back in for a different color effect.

Adding a vehicle wrap is something they can do outside of production, perhaps even at the service centers instead of the factory. Or just leave it up to third parties to deal with.

Edit: I do think it's a cool effect. Just can't see it happening. Maybe you can pull the hood and the tailgate and DIY it.

skip around see how long it takes this using map gas... this is real time...the piece was warped badly after and anything on the other side would melt for sure.

just a little test... as the saying goes, theres many ways to skin a fish

Nice. The creative potential is limitless but it makes me wonder with panels being relatively large and torch flame relatively small, it is almost guaranteed the panels won't be heated evenly. Wouldn't that compromise the integrity of the steel in our bullet proof apocalypse machine?

Absolutely, cause you will probably heat it too much in spots and anneal it.

I’d love to see an artiste invent a pour-over chemical method for those who want to tatoo their CT’s. Bassani Mfg doesn’t have a future in heat-treating CT’s.

Not enough renewable energy exists to offset the costs to heat-treat S.S. just for ornamental augmentation abd changes into on environmental oxymoron

Enough heat to seriously change the color might also cause some localized expansion or distortion of the skin, not to mention what adhesives, plastics, or attachment parts unseen may be subjected to that heat directly underneath the skin, or especially near weather seals and trim.

But 'you do yours' and let us know how that turns out. :cautious:🙃(y)
