Is anyone else confused about these things?
Foundation Series originally was only available with white trim and all terrain tires. Now there is the option of gray trim and all season tires.
I was assuming that the Non Foundation series would come with gray trim and all season tires and that white trim and off road tires would be an upgrade price.
When I go to my configurator for the Foundation Series the price is the same regardless of what color trim and what type of tires I select. Does this mean they are all the same price for the Non Foundation Series or that you are overpaying for gray trim and all season tires on the Foundation Series. I hope I explained this so it makes sense why I am confused.

I think the reality is a huge part of the ā€œfoundation seriesā€ price is just that you’re paying to be one of the first batch of people to get the truck. People should stop trying to justify it with the prices of the add ons. It’s honestly not much different than when a regular automaker releases a new vehicle that’s super popular and dealerships add a dealer markup. I suspect when it eventually comes time for non-foundation that the all terrain tires will be a paid upgrade. Not sure about the interior. Normally with Tesla your interior selection also changes seat color and that isn’t happening here so I think interior may change more with non-FS

You said it, you assumed. Tesla may have seen that there was a demand from Foundation Series purchasers that they wanted the trim and tires and just responded. It still may be a differentiator in the non-Foundation Series vehicles.

But basically, if you want to pay for it, might as well give the customer what they want.

Seems to me that the new setup with "Tactical Grey" and the all-season tires will be more similar to the $79,999 base AWD CT than the Foundation Series. Call me crazy, but the new config spice are simply more pedestrian options.

I think it’s best to rename this in your head. Foundation series -> Fully Optioned. And fully is a relative term as not every accessory is included so don’t take it too literally. As more vehicle options become available (due to cost / ramp) your Fully Optioned package allows you to pick and choose within the available choices. Eventually you will be able to go ala cart (aka non FS) but who knows when. Hope this helps.

Why should they not ship Foundation Series with grey trim and highway tires if that's what someone wants?

It signs they're starting to ramp the options. Standard edition trucks will start at the end of the year and all the options will actually cost money then.

IMO, I believe Tesla will continue to sell the FS CT as long as the demand is greater than the supply. As soon as they start manufacturing more trucks than they can sell at the FS price, is when the base CT will be sold.

At 330,000 something on the list I am glad I got the opportunity for the foundation AWD and took it because the truck is awesome and anyone that gets the email and can afford the extra $$$ in my opinion should go for it.

Why would you assume that? The $20k FS markup clearly lists out what you're paying extra for, color and tires were not one of them.

It shows off road tires as included with FS. It should be cheaper to get the gray interior with the all season tires when Non-FS releases. White interior and off road tires will have an upgrade price
