Are we all hearing that light chirping sound from the front drive unit when regenerative braking is engaged?

AWD or Beast? Guessing AWD since it can sleep the front motor and kicking it back on for regen could generate audible noise.

That's not chirping that's gear whine which is normal. A lot of people mistake that for motor noise which it also isn't.

Usually gear whine is constant more like whirrrrr or wheeeee not a chirp chirp chirp sound. No other dual motor tesla ive ever had makes sound like this.

Gear whine is normally not constant, it has resonances. I've been hearing the same kind of "chirping" noises coming from the gearboxes of heavy duty truck transmissions for decades. The reason more people are not familiar with this sound is because trucks have mostly all gone to automatic transmissions. But the Cybertruck has a gear reduction unit that behaves like a manual transmission that is always in the same gear (it's a 15:1 gear reduction).

Completely normal. People freaking out about this didn't grow up driving trucks with manual gear boxes. It sounds just like a truck that's in second or third gear.

Other tesla have from a 7 or 9:1 gear reduction and the gears are not nearly as heavy duty (meaning they are narrower) so there is less chirping due to both these factors. Also, I bet the gear cases of the Cybertruck are relatively lighter and more optimized, as such they might transmit the sound outside the gearbox more readily. I know this is the case relative to old-school manual transmission trucks. Many of them had cast iron gear cases (but the sound still came out, just not as easily).

Personally, I love the sound! It's the sound of beefy gears doing their thing.

I understand what you are saying but this does not sound like resonance.

ive driven trucks with manual gear boxes and again, its more of a whirrrr or wheeee, not Chirp chirp. Chirp.

perhaps this is all normal for the cybertruck given it is brand new architecture all around. As the tech who went on the test drive with me said, we are all trying to figure out what sounds are normal for this truck and what are not.

all I'm doing is making note of what seems different than expected, so that if something like big red “critical error” or “drive unit disabled” show up on my truck, an issue was noted well in advance. especially given my experience with more than one big issue so far.

trust me, i want to enjoy this truck, i was a very early reservation holder. I said long ago, this will be my next vehicle, and hopefully the last one i have to buy, but that “last one i have to buy” is seeming less and less likely every day.
