I picked up my 2026 Cyber Truck from the dealership about two weeks ago. I drove it immediately to the company that was going to cover it with PPC. I went to pick it up today and they did a beautiful job, but I did notice some imperfections on the outer edge of the frunk. They were not sure what the problem was and as you can see, they pulled the PPC back to clean the surface and then reapply it. Now we think it is an imperfection in the substrate of the stainless steel. I am reaching out to see if anyone else has experienced this problem. Also to see whether this is something I should address under a warranty claim with Tesla. Thank you for your help.

While stainless steel is highly resilient, the protection is based on the oxidation of the surface layer. This layer interacts with the environment, and will vary slightly in appearance over time.

It can also appear to "rust" when iron particles collect on the surface (brake dust, rail dust, etc.).

Prior to coating or wrappings, the stainless should be prepped to remove any such contamination and create a uniform appearance. One of the better products for this is Bar Keepers's Friend (oddly in the kitchenware isle, not automotive lol). It's also good to use an iron-remover like IronX.

I use such measures rarely, but you'd want the best appearance possible before covering it. Before I applied my ceramic coating, I used both IronX and BKF to prep.

I'm sure you can clean up this area without too much trouble. It might make the frunk lid a bit more "shiny" than the rest, but since it doesn't share a plane with any other panel, it won't be very noticeable.

If it’s an issue you can’t mitigate with bar keepers,I would take it in. I would have them replace the frunk.
