I haven't heard this discussed. If a Tesla has FSD, will it have programmed in, that under certain circumstances, the Tesla may honk its horn to prevent an accident? In other words, just like we do in real life?

Has Elon addressed that question?

Thank you,

Dan

I think he's said it will have to, but it does not currently.

Eventually it'll be listening for sounds like honks and sirens, apparently.

Actually I was talking about the Tesla you would driving would encounter a situation that would necessitate it honking at someone else to prevent an accident.

This thread reminded me of a great video about uses of horns.

Like when someone is backing up into you?

This is a pretty weird/ tough thing for a person to note and do in a timely enough fashion. The Tesla FSD software is designed to prevent the car from doing bad things. Preventing other cars from doing bad things is an entire other problem space.

It’s possible, just not sure it’s likely any time soon. More likely, by the time it gets smart enough to figure it out, FSD type systems will be common enough to make this sort of collision extremely unlikely.

That's what I was answering.

FSD will have to learn how to communicate with other road users.

It already flashes its 'lasers' and chirps when people trigger Sentry mode to avoid collisions. The Bolt has been programmed to alert during a battery fire so that people know to get away or call for help.

It would be interesting if it also took evasive actions when needed. Like when two cars are backing towards each other, not only does it stop, it pulls forwards so the other car doesn’t hit it.

Speaking of "Horn". Wondering, what horn they going to put on the CT. Hopefully, it will not sound like a high pitched whistle. This truck demands a powerful deep sounding air horn imho.

Wondering the same. Since the truck is built up in my mind, any horn most likely will be a letdown to me.

Doesn't Tesla let you customize your horn?

It’s a bit weird. You can, but then when you hit the horn the normal horn still goes off as it plays the custom sound. Then the music you were playing stops and it saves the prior minute of dash cam footage.

Its a little glitchy for me so I don’t use it outside of the parking lot.

I figure the CT will have a Meep Meep horn like the road runner myself.

Wait! Are you saying that Bolts have had so many fires that they now have a battery on fire mode?

And people keep complaining about Tesla fires….?

Seems like if you need a fire mode then you might want to work on preventing the fires in the first place.
