May be a while for this.

when FSD reaches Robo-taxi level.

I want to be able to send my CT off in advance, and have it arrive to pick me up at an arriving airport.

bags in the truck, pulls up without a driver, I get in and drive away.

It is not about the cost sending the truck but the sheer attitude I can.

So you are heading to JFK from LAX. You dispatch your CT to JFK 2 - 3 days before you leave and it is there at JFK to pick you up when you arrive? Riiiight.

It's possible but then you are also going to not have your Cybertruck for days while you are at home and then you have to send it back before you fly back home or after and then you have no CT at home again until it returns. Unless you have another vehicle at home, and even then it just seems really pointless to do.

Doing something by sheer attitude is usually done in front of others to show you can, but no one would know it's yours. If robotaxi is around, i'm sure Tesla will probably supply lots of vehicles for robotaxi and everyone would just think that you ordered one as well.

Now if we think far into the future when Tesla and maybe other companies have reaches level 5,after about 20-30 years, I predict that a lot less people in cities will own cars. You no longer have to pay a driver a living wage to drive a taxi or uber, the largest cost for transportation would be gone. People could just have accounts on the robotaxi app and use the cars as they need them.

I do think that FSD will become a pretty expensive option until a lot more companies catch up because at that point, your car becomes an income generator as well. I'm hoping my family will have 3 Teslas in the next 2-3 years. and if robotaxi becomes a relality in the next 5 or so years, I would love a model 3 that's just constantly working.

The robo-truck wouldn't have to sleep on its errand. And you don't really want to take it to the airport anyhow ^-^

I live over an hour from LAX. It would be awesome to have a CT drive itself home, after I drive it to the airport. Then come meet me after my trip.
Just recently I took a trip with my 17 yr. old and my wife drove us down there the afternoon before, so we could stay overnight and leave early the next morning. Then she drove down there and met us at the curb to drive us home. I think it helped that she was helping her little guy, but I think that's a lot to ask. Having the CT do it would be great. And yes, I don't like leaving a car there for a week. But I've done that too.

Yeah that's a much more common benefit that people will see when Tesla reaches level 5.
There are countless things that I would use a Tesla with level 5 autonomy for. I would even send it to the store to pick up a pizza that i paid for online. I'll just send the truck with an empty frunk except a pizza bag, pop the frunk when it gets there for the pizza. I'm sure that would become pretty normal when FSD is perfected

Yep, time to rotate the tires CT. Go take care of it, and don't come home till those tires are rotated. Oh hey, while you're at it, go pick up the kid from school. Pizza sounds good for dinner too.

Yeah I think i'll deligate picking up the kids to the dog so my wife doesn't have to when i'm at work. I just have to train the dog so that he knows on weekday when the truck pulls up, he just runs out, gets in the driver seat, and makes sure he gets all of them inside and back home. My dog is pretty smart, I might even be able to trust him to pick up burgers on the way back.

I wonder if I can set a very specific spot for the truck to park in my driveway. So I can make it park next to a little ramp, have the window roll down and my dog can actually make it inside without having to jump in and scratching the inside of the door.

in these situations, I can go with the truck for a few days and save more on having my truck instead of a rental.

Company travel pays for a rental, if I am doing personal travel with family, I would have a net savings on rental fees if staying a week.

Not to mention, no baggage fees, no baggage porters, tips, wife’s bag is overweight, because I put some of my stuff there, avoid shipping bag option fees and the bag checkin lines.

Exactly. Don’t let limited imagination rob you from greatness.

I fly to Texas too, sending truck ahead of time would be awesome. I go to Vegas, fly conundrum vs drive. 5 hour drive vs going to the airport, showing early for flight, flight time, checking a bag, mainly just use an overnight to Vegas, catching a ride to hotel 2.5 hours.

Do I fly and send my truck so I have a vehicle there? Do I sleep I. The truck as it drives me?

Neither with current state. Future state has wondrous possibilities.

Be more glass half full.

One more consideration, sending the truck ahead, in the fantasy scenario, would be done when it benefits and makes sense to me. Using a scenario that does not make sense would not apply. I would not send a car to JFK and would just use a service. Maybe if I fly into Newark. interest is in the less densely populated areas where having a car is more convenient than a service.

I drive so much for work that I'll be happy with just freeway AP, but I reserved the FSD package just because I wanted to go all out. It'll really change the dynamic of a field work day when I can put up all my tools, climb in my truck, hit the voice command and tell the truck to take me home.

I call it "cybertruck daydreaming" and I do it almost every day.

I guess for some it'll be a good option but i'm still going to go with the argument that unless you have extra vehicles at home, you probably still need to get to work, run errands, maybe pick up kids. My wife and I will always have at least 3 vehicles, but I would probably still just opt to rent a car on arrival, or since this is a time where robotaxi would actually be a thing, I'll opt for a robotaxi to get to my destinations.

If i'm sending my truck a thousand miles or more, it's just racking up miles. I also expect that once robotaxi is legal and has had a few years to prove that it's safe and reliable, it'll probably be cheaper than an uber today. depending on how much driving you would need to do at your destination, it might even be cheaper for robo taxi than it would be for charging on the way there and back as well as the added mileage on the truck which reduces the value.

I will say that it would be a fantastic option for people who are moving. it can be a little costly to send your vehicles across the country if you aren't driving yourself. Personally I would never pass up the roadtrip, but for people who don't want to be on the road for a few days. This would save a lot of trouble.

I do have an extra vehicle. But, this is fantasy. Would most likely use to drop me off at the airport and drive back or pick up take out food..

Yeah i've been contemplating that idea for a while. I guess it also depends on the age of the child. If I have small children in school, I'd probably want my wife or I to be there just in case of an accident. I'd hate to be relaxing at home with my wife and then find out the truck was hit by someone while the kids were inside.
