Now that I am thinking of getting a Model Y until the CT is ready I have a big question: Will Tesla make all Model Ys with the front gigacasting after they start making them in Austin, or will they have 2 separate models, one with and one without? Second, if the latter is the case, then can we specify that we want a Model Y from Austin? I doubt anyone knows the answer to either question but I am interested in your views. Thank you.

I already have a PY, but now with the extended delay, might want to get a TeraTexas Y as well... but my interest would rely more on the 4680s and a range over 400 miles to enable better towing etc... otherwise I'll just wait for the CT.

Either way, whether Tesla publicizes it or not, I'm sure the info will get out soon after they make them...but I'm pondering whether to just put a deposit down now so I can be among the first to jump on the new 4680s (or in your case the giga-casting).

We can just keep refusing delivery until one comes out with whatever specs you want correct?

Since the 4680 looks to be past EOY, There may be more than 2 versions.

  • Model Y 2170 batteries/ Unicast Rear Assembly. (Fremont)
  • Model Y 2170 batteries/ Front & Rear Unicast Assemblies. (Texas & Berlin)
  • Model Y 4680 batteries/ Front & Rear Unicast Assemblies. (Future Texas & Berlin)
What I think makes most sense is switching the Fremont facility over to Model 3, Model S, and Model X production and do all Model Y production in Texas. Maybe that's part of why the Model X is not being produced right now?

I was, and remain, convinced that there will be no Model Ys at GigaAustin with 4680s in the next 3-4 months or I’d have mentioned it. What I didn’t mention or ask about is air suspension on the Model Y.

My understanding is that is the case with orders. So even if you don't take delivery you can just keep postponing, at least if Tesla time news is to be believed.

My best guess is that once Austin is running Y at full capacity Tesla will close the Y-line at Fremont. Then they can up date Fremont for front and rear casting. Tesla will reopen Fremont’s Y-line to be as modern, safe and efficient as Austin and Berlin. 4680 cells will be added as production capacity enables.

I expect that will free Fremont's lines for more Model 3/S/X updates and price drops.

Fish tacos are Baja.

Come to think of it, East Bay is the most melting pot part; lots of different immigrant communities. It's where the largest black communities were in NorCal, where the largest Asian communities are now. It's the one place that has both racist exclusive enclaves and legal Mexican nationals from long-standing work visas and family interconnections in the same school districts.

Yeah. Tho the story of the racism - and it only takes one or two out of thousands - gets exhausting.

"My little Jimmy is banned from wearing the American flag at school!"

Not said was that little Jimmy wore the American flag with a half-dozen other students on Cinco de Mayo and assaulted Mexican/Californio kids who were celebrating the holiday... ?

It gets insidious, too, like drawing city bounds that locked neighborhoods apart from having the same tax or police base, etc.

Anyhow! I love avocado toast but I rarely eat it. So much good food to eat out here, holidays to celebrate to give those guys time on my mind.
