It's surreal!
I've owned quite a few Tesla's over the last 6+ years. This feels like the first time I drove a 3. It's a Tesla, but it's entirely new and different. So far, everything is great!
The Delivery team was great. They drove the truck down since letting it sit anywhere causes a crowd. BTW, seeing it for the first time in motion...it looked like it wasn't real. The whole time I'm pinching myself. And that's it's ours! It had 12 miles on it. Came with the sun shade, but not the extra carpeted mats (just the rubber ones). Also had the charger, tie-down hooks, bottle opener, and dividers in the under storage.
I drove it, my wife drove it, even my 17 year old daughter drove it. They all said it was easy to drive and get used to the steering, that it was just bigger. BTW, no issue with sight out the front (i.e. A-pillar concerns). The mirror reminds me of the mirror I put in my Lotus. It's soooo small. Like, half the size of a normal rear-view mirror. Will probably just take it off.
Overall it's great. It only has 46 miles on it now, but it's only been a few hours! Will report back later...
WORTH THE WAIT!!!!
Small update. Asked the wife her impressions and she said it's definitely quieter than a Model 3 or Y (we have/had both). I think it's about the same as the latest Model S. Stereo is awesome, slightly better than the latest Model S. It's soooo clear no matter how loud it is. The base is really smooth and tight.
Steering has been a non-event. The big "wow" moment was when we needed to make a U-Turn on a divided 2 lane highway. It's a place we're used to, and usually you start in the wide median, and end up in the far lane. The truck did it in the near lane (i.e. basically only needed a little more than 2 lanes to make a U-turn)!!! We all went "Woah".
Attention has been less than I've heard, which is a good thing for me. The interesting thing is, at least on the first day down here, is about 1 in 10 will show interest/notice it. But of those, there have been some truly epic reactions. One younger guy driving the other way did a wide-open gasp like you see the kid on the bike do on the internet meme when he sees the Cybertruck for the first time. The other funny one was a middle-ages woman sitting it traffic saw it and you could read her lips going "What the f..." as we drove by. Too funny. And of course, the younger the kids, the greater the reaction.
My neighbor texted me when I got home just now "Congrats! My son just came in screaming...thought he was gravely injured. He was excited about your truck.". He's 8. This was after 3 other young kids in our neighborhood ran to the edge of the street and covered their mouths as in astonishment as we drove by. That was great. Just wish our kids were still young enough to do car-line drop-off/pick up!
Will try and update this over the next few days. Still can't believe it's real...
