I’ve heard from several of my acquaintances about how much they hate Musk and especially the Cybertruck. Some of them used to be Musk’s fanbois before Musk switched the political views. Just as much as they were radical in supporting Musk before, they are now radical in hating on Musk. But the Cybertruck drives them especially crazy.

Has anyone been personally confronted and/or threatened for owning a Cybertruck?

Confronted. Yeah by an armored truck driver. He said he would trade. He had a gun. I said sure. Does yours have more than pennies in it I asked? I held the door open for him.

Was quite the confrontation.

Yes, all the time. Politics aside, it’s 90% positive, 10% negative/neutral. Was closer to 70/30 in the early days, with more negative than neutral in that 30, but more people than not say they like it better in person than on the interwebz.

People mostly want to talk about the steel, how fast it goes, how roomy the cabin is, and how it’s “actually a truck” when they see the vault. Uhhh yea its a truck...

*EDIT* Recently threw a SpaceX badge on the tailgate, lower right corner below FS etching. Hysterical watching Sentry footage when people spot it. I like to think they immediately jumped on the Compaq desktop, launched AOL, and searched Netscape for SpaceX consumer vehicle. Even funnier hearing a friendly senior citizen say to his wife "oh it says SpaceX right there" as I was explaining the various thicknesses of the exoskeleton with a young "new hire at the airport," aka bag boy that thought he now had an aeroengineer title.

Yes. While stopped at downtown traffic light (san diego), random person bangs loudly on passenger window and kicks the door yelling “he has to pay, he has to pay” and some other ramblings i could understand. For a moment i thought i had driven over someone, it wasnt a homeless. Very weird.

i also had an F150 owner bang his door into my truck twice (caught on camera), then he discovered he damaged his door and was mouthing something loudly and drove off. When i inspected the door, there was a nice paint stripe (his) that came right off with a scrape of my nail and a bit of brushing.

but the most annoying are many neighbors whom i know well and often talked to have this passive aggressive we don’t talk about that thing in front of your yard or semi joke attitude. The assumption seems to be that _I_ am now elon musk or have assumed his political views or i don’t know what.

Luckily it is offset my people who are genuinly interested and like the truck or just say its not for them but are happy you are happy.

i drive many miles to support the community (search and rescue), SAR magnet is on the side. Appeartly a portion of folks expect you to do that in an ICE car at every hours of thr night…

I've been confronted numerous times by kids, usually with an adult. Always offer to let them sit in the drivers seat. They have this visible excitement and awe.

This has been my experience. I was given the finger for the first time a few days ago by a driver of a car headed the opposite direction. Then, I went to Walmart, parked a ways out where there was plenty of room. A guy walking out as I was walking in said something snide about seeing some rust on it where the bugs were. I said yep, and went on. Other than that, I get thumbs up, pictures taken, questions. Online, both positive and negative comments have been made about it for reasons from various points of view (crossfire :). A friend of mine said he’d like a bumper sticker that says,”bought for engineering, not politics”. But, I bet someone would take offense at that!

Having been an owner of a Tesla since the time when Elon was still a Democrat, I've had my fare share of hate coming from the right-wing family/friends. Now, I'm getting hate from the left-wing family/friends for owning the same exact Tesla after Elon has switched the parties. Curiously, the right-wingers no longer confront me for having the same Tesla they confronted me for just a couple years ago. It used to be that the rednecks in F250s would block the charging stalls at the Tesla Superchargers and roll coal into the windshield when passing. They are much more accepting of the Tesla now, but the crazy left-wingers seriously scare me more than the rednecks did a few years ago. The hatred for Tesla is so visceral among the left-wing nowadays. Just read articles on Electrek and feel the hatred from both the authors and the commenters. I'm not so scared for myself as for my wife being confronted by one of those nutcases when she drives the Cybertruck. Seeing how there is absolutely no consequences for them destroying property or openly steeling from stores, I don't think the police would even do anything at all if a nutcase were to confront my wife and/or vandalize the Cybertruck. This thought didn't even enter my mind until a few months ago when I started hearing the visceral and militant hate for Musk and for the Cybertruck from the people I've known for a long time and had never thought they would have such strong opinions about a CEO, a company, or a particular vehicle. We truly live in some seriously messed up times when before buying a vehicle, one has to consider how others would react.

Quoting Heinlein is appropriate - “The more complex the world becomes, the more people turn back to primitive beliefs and simplistic answers.”

And it's likely only starting.

I've been confronted a couple of times around the UT Austin campus because of my 3/4 ton truck being very Ungreen, but laughed it off. Heavy trucks built the world and will build tomorrow's world.

Some people do not realize how small their thinking is.

You’ve given me a great idea. I will choose a green wrap for it so that when they tell me it’s ungreen, I’ll just point at it’s color.

Did that yesterday in a very busy shopping center; kid was excited to see my truck and I offered the parents a look inside. Kid jumped in and was SUPER excited. Parents also took a picture of their kid in front of the truck. Priceless!
