I totally agree with this approach because this is exactly what I did when taking delivery of my FS last month. I’ve attached excerpts of pre-delivery texts below regarding this subject.

I second this. I made a partial payment via financing and then took a cashiers check down-payment with me to the lot.

You can secure a payment to show you have every intention of purchasing but it doesn’t go into effect until you sign that piece of paper accepting the vehicle. Once you get to the showroom, ask them to point you to your vehicle and walk every inch of it to make sure all is well. If you’re in a not so crowded showroom, you’ll have someone with you to go over things.

It may seem like u pay but if u don’t sign pick up at delivery no loan no payment
