One thing I feel we haven't fully accounted for is Tesla's move to provide wind resistance and direction information.

It would assist the drive to know if there's a headwind, and slow down to a recommended optimum speed , and conversely perhaps go faster with a tailwind.

Driver assist will provide the optimum efficiency to travel the maximum distance.

All in all... its percentage points, but a gain.

Although physics is the same for every truck... not all batteries and trucks are created equal.

Watch this space.

It is not going to be about the battery.
Look at the engine engineering; the CT will be using super sophisticated Model S motors.

The Ford EV's in comparison are a bad joke.

Telsa is going to own Ford in the very near future.

I would agree. With not much to do when we were assigned into some remote work location, we made some informal experimentation with company's fleet of vehicles as it's optimal ecomical speed. We did come up with some numbers.

And with the sophisticated Tesla on board computers, it could track this down also in cases where we are towing trailer based on some empirical numbers from our previous trips on similar CT-trailer configuration. Too on optimal speed with head winds if this can be measured and tracked down. On another, a recalc of range considering inputs of route, road incline, trailer weight, etc.

I cancelled my f150 first wave RES when they sent me configurator. thought at the time cybertruck was close to production and didn't need 2 trucks.

I know Tesla is ahead on battery tech but by how much?

F150 long range got 86 miles towing a large/light trailer with 9% left with last 10 miles babied to make it to a charge station. Less than a 3rd of claimed 320 range is disappointing
I towed a small U-Haul cargo trailer (2.5k lbs) with my model Y (77kw) from Virginia to Texas. About 1500 miles over 3 days, and averaged 125 miles on 90% charge.

According to Teslarati Pilot and Flying J will be installing oil through chargers at their locations across the country. Seems towing may not be an issue in a few years.

And if this is Tesla compatible chargers, I can charge and get my good coffee at the same time (Pilot in I-5 Lost Hills have the best coffee -- and the cheapest gas along that corridor).

It’s a GM/ EVGo thing so likely no Tesla chargers. If/ when the CCS adaptor arrives can use it though.

I suspect your idea of “best coffee” is different from mine.

Yeah, their contract for hot chocolate now is this bizarre sugary fudge version.

I usually drink my coffee black, but the only way I can stomach Pilot coffee is with lots of cream and sugar. We just hit Dutch Bros or Starbucks and get an Americano. I don’t really care for what Starbucks calls coffee either.

It's looking like I might be able to convert my F150L reservation to an order in the next few weeks. I still don't know if I'm going to stretch for the Lariat ER (which would probably be delivered soonish) or hold out for the basiest of base models Pro (which may never be delivered at all.) Could be a game time decision.

I want a Cybertruck and will buy the three motor version because of the added range. However, I will cancel my order if the range drops by that much when towing. Battery tech will catch up to meet our needs in a few more years.
You might as well cancel your Cybertruck order now because the ratio of how much range you lose when towing a given setup is not going to change significantly. It's a matter of how much work you ask the batteries to perform and, at freeway speeds, the amount of energy required to pull a large object through the airsteam is always going to be a lot. Battery technology is always improving but it's a slow, steady improvement, not a ground-breaking improvement.

That said, you would be surprised how far you can tow an aerodynamic trailer if you simply slow down. Air resistance increases with the square of the speed and many EV towing tests set up the EV to return very poor numbers by towing too fast and having a trailer with worse aero than a concrete block. Get off the Interstate and tour the countryside on slower secondary roads. Personally, I know my wife and I will be able to fit everything we need inside the Cybertruck to camp in style. It's also really cheap to hit a motel when convenient or if you don't like the camping options in the area. Towing is basically boring and I avoid it when possible.

I still don't understand people's desire to tow a small house along with them wherever they travel. It's a mindset that doesn't understand how to truly have a fun rewarding vacation or lifestyle. Some people think they need to be surrounded by a lot of stuff to enjoy travelling. Whatever happened to camping? Even glam camping doesn't require a small house in order to sit under a canopy and enjoy a fresh brewed cup of coffee or whatever pushes your buttons.

Least this thread devolve into coffee topic, my favorite is espresso from an Italian outdoor cafe while watching svelte signorinas go by.

But then in practical day to day reality, I have a Nespresso using the Intenso pod while wife keeps on reminding me about leaking faucet that I promised to fix the previous winter ago.

Pilot happened to be the only cappuccino I can take and very specific to Lost Hills.

But yes, it goes without saying that an adapter and a credit card are needed.
