In speaking with a Tesla rep during a recent service center visit, I learned that FSD can be bought at any time after purchasing a Cybertruck. With an $8k price tag, it definitely adds lot to the final price of the vehicle. How often do you use FSD? 1-10, mostly never to every time you drive.

Autopilot seems to work just fine for the use case of keeping one's lane and reducing driving fatigue on the highway. Wondering what the community's thoughts were.

Since v13, I'm probably at 8 or 9. 90% of the time, only taking over in parking lots or complicated situations. Though I do "help" with the accelerator pedal a fair amount.

Part of my FSD usage might be fascination with the fact that it works at all, and the fun I have rooting for it.

That said, I'm getting to the point where I think I might trust it more than my old eyes at night on our dark country roads.

I also take it over a very narrow, somewhat intimidating, bridge each day and it does better than most drivers at staying centered in the lane there.

You can also subscribe and pay monthly, which is still the best deal.

FSD historically has added next to 0 value when selling a Tesla unless selling privately.

Subscription is $99 per month.

I almost exclusively use FSD when I drive.

It's the reason we go cruising.
2-3 hour scenery trips with little to no fatigue.
On nearly 100% of the time.

I got FSD free with FS, but I bought it on 2 other Teslas.

If I didn't have the ability to transfer it, I wouldn't buy it again. I would just subscribe. When I sold my MY for the CT, Tesla told me they don't value FSD at all. Carvana and Car Max didn't either...so I don't see a point in buying it, when $99 per month is cheaper unless I own the car for almost 7 years.

I use it literally everywhere I go, mostly so that a) it can get some time in the pilot's seat, and b) so I can get familiar with its capabilities and limits.

It's also been a relief to let it drive after a recent shoulder injury.

There’s only two ways to get value out of buying FSD at this point:

(1) private sale where somebody understands what they’re getting out of it,

(2) drive it til the wheels fall off and (a) hopefully live long enough to have it actually become a robotaxi (b) actually use it.

The only other benefit in owning it is the ability to transfer it as you update your car but you’re at the mercy of Tesla for that. It’s worked out perfectly for me other than some special collectors cars and my Aptera, I plan for my model S and CB to be the last cars that I buy.

In a decade or three I’ll get to find out whether up until this point old people have just been using the excuse of not being able to drive at night so they don’t have to do stuff or if it’s been a real limitation that I won’t have because my cars can do the driving. Take that cataracts!

At this point, subscription is costing people >$600 per year with all of the free trials Tesla is doing.

I use it at least once per drive. When I had my model S, I would always buy the monthly subscription for that month. Well worth it.

But also when I had my Model S, the price of the full FSD changed a lot, it was $6000, then $15000, then $7000, now $8000. The month also changed $100 - $300. So I would be willing to bet a lot that once Tesla gets Unsupervised released in 2026 (more likely 2028 knowing how Tesla products there timelines), the price will jump up to $15,000-$20,000. Elon even said that it would be "Worth" $100,000 at one time.

With something improving so quickly it doesn't make sense to consider historical resale value or subscription cost, because someone would have to blind to think it won't go up in value once it's allowed to drive autonomously.

For the same reason, the best justification for paying $8K now is so you don't have to pay a *lot* more later. When it's allowed to drive by itself, there is no world in which you will be able to subscribe to that for $99/month! Or buy it for anything near $8K.

I almost exclusively use FSD when I drive.
I don't use it more than 60% of the time (yet), but think about what you would be missing once it's allowed to drive autonomously and the cost to purchase is jacked to $25K-$50K. Maybe you would get lucky and they would offer a non-commercial, private use license for only $15K (but I wouldn't count on that!).
