I’m new to FSD; my 2016 Model S only had auto-steer, which I actually miss now. I’ve noticed that FSD requires constant attention to the point that I’m too anxious to even use it since the attention awareness just goes off at seemingly random times. If I even look at my screen to see cars riding my @$$, it will give me a warning in just a couple seconds. However, it doesn’t seem to be as strict during the day as it is at night.

Does anyone else notice it being more strict at night on straight shot highways?

Does anyone have tips on the driver monitoring system? I’m so worried that I’ll get kicked off FSD that it’s to the point that I don’t even use it.

Prepare yourself mentally to let it drive cautiously & patiently! It is amazing but definitely requires patience & "trust"! Do not engage it if you are in a rush to get somewhere, 😂

Haha. My anxiety is not from its driving quality. I trust it on the long highway I take. I’m more concerned with the attention alerts it throws so hastily. I’m worried I’ll get kicked off FSD so much that I don’t even use it.

The attention alerts are definitely annoying but I get the reason why it exists. Low 🔑, it's also amazing how "accurate" the inside camera is @ identifying when I'm messing with my phone or playing with the screen. The multitasking ability of Teslas in general are insane. People that have never driven one, have no idea!

You could buy a camera cap and revert to your auto pilot that would be identical to your 2016, I.e. you will need to apply pressure to the wheel every so often.

If a camera cap is a cover for the camera, FSD will not engage if the cabin camera is covered, or at least I had an emergency takeover triggered when I did (to see what happens) and said FSD wouldn't work with camera covered.

If a camera cap, is a ball cap you keep in your car to wear and block line of sight from the camera to your eyes, then yes. That is absolutely exactly what I do, but I always have a hat on so I don't have to keep one in my car for this purpose. I have been doing this in my Model 3 since the feature launched with attention monitoring, if I need a break from that feature. I like it though, not having to have hands on the wheel is a game changer for comfort.

Thank you. That’s a good idea. I noticed sunglasses are good too. Just not great for me at night… even if popular songs say otherwise. 😎

I just finished driving my CT on FSD from New Orleans to north Atlanta, Ga, with NO intentions, mainly interstate driving but it also handled very well Atlanta busy highway system around Atlanta on I-285. (450 miles). You are correct, you can’t be looking down at screen more than a few seconds before “blue” warning light, but if you look back up, warning goes away. If you wait for the warning sound you have “nag” steering wheel. After dark I was getting warnings more often, even when I was paying attention, I feel it’s do to low lighting, mainly happened on open highways with no street lighting available. Handle construction zones and lane closures with no problems. I drove first day on version 12.5.5, system updated to 12.5.5.2 for second day of driving, I didn’t see any noticeable difference. I was concerned of update due to all the negative comments on this site. FSD and CT were great (my first trip in CT), loved the experience and can’t wait for the drive back home next week. I hope this helps.

My anxieties will be fixed with more uploaded videos and comments from all CT drivers. I use it almost every time I drive it. AND, thus the problem. Yesterday, I thought I was driving FSD and I was not, lol, on the freeway.

Thank you. I’ve noticed that the blue warning can’t be removed solely by applying resistance to the steering wheel. I think that was one point of confusion for me when I was looking at the screen.

Glasses are going to be hit or miss. I wear dark polarized natives and attention monitoring works fine when I wear them so only the hat works for me.

I had no problems wearing sunglasses though out whole 450 mile trip.

Yeah. It’s much better with sunglasses on. Just hard to actually see anything at night with them on. And it seems that it throws more false warnings at night, even when I’m looking at the road.

The camera tracking your pupils is accurate enough to know if you are glancing at the rear view camera vs a media playlist. Crazy, isn't it? lol
