How's your AM radio?

I just read an article saying many Euro EV automakers were doing away with AM in their cars because of the EV motors interference with the AM signals.

I can't go without my AM sports stations.
Skip the boat mode mode; CT better build in a strong AM receiver!

On a more serious note, the Cybertruck is unlikely to include an AM radio receiver. Either stream the channel you want, or get a dedicated AM radio.

I suppose I assume that my car has a radio receiver. Being 2022, I've never tried to find/use it. Using the in-car Spotify felt retro enough.

Same radio as in the Model S, 3, X, Y that I have heard no complaints about?

AM radios and AC Induction Motors do not play nicely together. My S came with an AM/FM radio and the AM was worthless unless the car was parked or within 10 miles of a very powerful transmitter. The road safety stations are so weak they can barely be heard on any AM radio anyway. I haven't heard whether or not the CT will have permanent magnet motors or induction motors or a combination of the two.

High frequency switching of some electronic devices such as inverters emit signals that interfere with the AM signal band. Some can be filtered but it's difficult to get it all or even most of the interfering signals. That is why Tesla has done away with AM radios in all their cars. I have a 2015 S with an AM receiver and its signal has background static that varies with the speed of the vehicle. I think this is the inverter that is required to connect the dc battery to the ac synchronous motors that this model came with.

Correct, the issue is the high frequency/high power switching in the inverter. Inverters create radio frequency interference (RFI) regardless of whether the motor is induction or permanent magnet.
There are a number of things to mitigate RFI but each has its trade-offs. Shielding works well, but adds cost and weight. Filtering also works well, but adds cost, weight and can also lower efficiency. (filters often get warm). My guess, Tesla has determined the best amount and combination of mitigation tactics to minimize cost, weight, and inefficiencies while meeting all applicable regulations. I wonder if there’s a difference between American Tesla’s and European Tesla’s in this regard. I know in the industrial world The EU is notably sticker than the US in this regard.
