What a difference a day makes. Yesterday, was filled with anticipation and excitement. I saw the photo of a bunch of Cybertrucks on a production line, and was ecstatic. It's finally going to happen! 4 years of waiting was going to be worth it. They're building OUR trucks! I was totally oblivious to the trainwreck that was about to happen.
In a matter of minutes, EVERYTHING changed. And like everything in life, it's about the money! Everything about the reveal was fine. The CT has changed. It doesn't have the ramp, the air compressor, the 6th seat, sail storage, door handles, or any kind of pass through from the bed. Or the stainless bed for that matter. But it does have mirrors and a 4'wiper. And a 15 speaker theater system, 4 wheel steering by wire. Okay, that's pretty cool, I guess. But what about the specs?
Luckily/unfortunately the YouTube livestream I watched, looked them up and posted screenshots as Elon was still giving out "cars". HOLY CRAP!!! When they changed to the tab of ACTUAL est. prices, my life changed. No longer was I getting a practical truck, with a good Total Cost of Ownership! Now, what the Cybertruck has become is a Supertruck at a reasonable price. But that's not what over 2 million reservation holders ordered.
I watched the night of the reveal, and I was BLOWN away by Tesla/Elon saying they were going to build a 3mil. Stainless Steel trucks that would have TONS of practicality. It had 6 seats, lots of storage, a built-in tailgate ramp (some of us thought maybe even a midgate). A built-in aircompressor (think airing down&back up). There were no mirrors, just a center monitor.
And then Elon told prices. HOLY CRAP, I could buy that pickup for $39.900. Basically all that, for the price of a Model 3! The future was happening. EVs are going to be reasonably priced. WOW, this is going to change the world!!!!!!!!!
I thought, the Cybertruck is going to be the modern day version of the Mustang from the 60's, everybody is going to want one! I reserved mine that night, about an hour after the reveal. And within a week, there were 1 million reservations, confirming what I thought.
Anyway, here we all are the day after, and this forum has exploded with way more comments than anyone can read. Mostly a bunch of anger. After 4 years I have saved up enough for the truck I was hoping to get. Unfortunately, this isn't it.
I don't want a Supertruck. The total cost of ownership is going to be ridiculous. I don't have the desire to be that guy driving that wild new Cybertruck, that everyone gawks at. I was actually a bit worried about that from the beginning. My hope was that fairly quickly there would be a million of these awesome practical vehicles on the road. And the world would know that EVs are a much better way to spend your money, than those expensive ICE vehicles. The world would change.
I guess we all woke up, and the dream just isn't going to pan out. In the words of CoolBreeze, "I was wrong". Tesla isn't going to stand behind their words. And these Cybertrucks are not going to change the world. I'm slightly interested in off-road usability. If they're functional, MAYBE they'll catch on. And I may be able to adjust my thoughts, and somehow justify buying this thing. But, it's NOT what I signed up for.
I spent almost 4 years living this dream and a massive amount of time on this forum. At this point, I feel like there's some camaraderie here, but it's all changed now. Sorry if I didn't take the time to read all your comments. I'll come back occasionally to see what's up. Enjoy your lives, people.
