... When I found out that there is a car washing mode that prevents the truck from being damaged in a car wash. As a new to Tesla person where EDP you find out about stuff like this?

People who own Teslas pay attention to sites like TeslaTap for features they would like to see and then get notified when they get implemented. Otherwise you could watch YouTube videos or online sites that present new/interesting features. This one has been around for quite a while (i.e., years). Teslas are full of cool stuff.

I asked about going through the car wash when I picked up the truck because it was filthy. They told me not go through an automatic car wash with brushes.

I would for sure activate car wash mode when I take my Y through. . Don’t feel bad about not knowing. I have learned about things (like the gears on the ceiling) watching reels on instagram about teslas.

Magnuson-Moss prevents your warranty being unceremoniously "voided", but...
  • if they tell you not to do a thing,
  • and then you do a thing anyway,
  • and something breaks because of it,
then that's probably not covered by your warranty.

So, damage caused by an automatic wash would likely not be categorized as a "manufacturer's defect", particularly if you failed to use the appropriate mode.

The real reason you need "Car Wash Mode" is because Teslas can be a little too autonomous sometimes, and in a car wash you just need it to sit still and be quiet lol.
