Got the @Mars Adventure Gear rack installed last week and snagged this awning from Openroad for a nice sale price. Thought I’d share my thoughts. It installed easily; I just had to use some spacers for the mounts to work but received some advice from the Mars team on Discord which was appreciated!
The awning is pretty heavy so taking it on and off would take 2 people in most cases. It feels sturdy on the rack and doesn’t budge when driving. The side walls for the awning zipper on easily which is much better than some of the velcro ones I’ve seen. All of the materials feel very well made and premium. I was afraid the awning cover material would be thin but it’s actually very thick and blocks the sun.
Customer service with Openroad has been excellent. Originally, I had an issue with the cover not pulling over the awning completely on one side. I thought the cover was made too small but it was due to the hinge mechanism not folding flat. It just needed to be loosened with a hex wrench slightly. Customer service was responsive and helped me get it resolved when I thought it’d need to be replaced.
Looking forward to receiving the Mars Basecamp tent soon! I ordered an external shower room enclosure on Amazon as well that will connect to the rack. Should arrive Sunday. I can update with photos if anyone’s interested. It’s been great to see everyone else’s setups here!
