Door handles on the CT are supposed to be a moot point but I found this latest software upgrade for our MY has added a feature to unlatch the driver’s door from the app — specifically for the case of frozen door handles.

I think they’re potentially integrating things so the Cybertruck can low key work with the app as a key, during testing. I think I read something about the truck being in the app at some level, but being seen as a model Y. This way it doesn’t blow the cover on the cyber features before unveiling

However, it’s a necessary feature if only for the sake of 3/Y features too though!

I do not recall seeing that but if true is great.

Zero chance of my door handles freezing, but I would like to use it so I don't have to deal with the stupid design of the door handles. Number one thing the wife and I would change on the car. I haven't checked to see whether the Watch app has it so I can just speak the command.

Door handles took a little to get used to. I still tell people "If you get in the right side, put your right thumb in the wide spot of the handle. Left side use left hands". Pretty easy once you've got the correct hand involved but yeah, I like the recessed handles but there has to be a better design. Maybe Elon's "The best part is no part" is the main driver towards the CT having no handles... That, or to keep costs down... or to maintain as much strength in the doors as possible... or to simplify construction (see also "keep costs down" section). LOL

They suck so much, worst part of the car. There's no getting used to them.

I tried the new opening feature, and it only opens to the safety stop. Useless.

If you "literally can't even" with the unusual 3/Y exterior door handles, you can add a grab handle for 50 bucks (from WalMart of all places):

Hansshow carries an illuminated, self-presenting door handle, but that requires surgery and is a bit pricier at $500.

It's unclear whether that's actually a functional pull-only handle. I do wonder if it would help.

The Mach-E has a button that fully pops the door, and a small pull area (handle I'd say). I was hoping the 3's new feature would fully pop the door. Our objection is getting into the car with stuff in our hands, it's a real annoyance.

It's also a great first world problem that when people ask me what I dislike about our Tesla, it's just the stupid door handles.

I love the pop-out, big handles on the Jags. I don't own one but have ridden in the fully self driving Waymo taxis, including with hands full of stuff.

It's a Model 3, not a Model S.
