Did you guys ever find out what the static load max is from Tesla? What’s the total weight of the system as pictured. I’m all but certain I’m going with this setup. It’s the only one that matches both my aesthetic and functional needs.

But I do need to understand the weight and loading limitations both dynamic and static.

Hey hey,

Unfortunately, we don’t have an official load rating from Tesla yet. However, we’ve conducted rigorous testing on just our front Expedition Rack, loading it with over 800 lbs of distributed weight without issues. The full rack is expected to support significantly more. Our FEA (Finite Element Analysis) also confirmed similar results, showing the front rack alone can handle well over 500 kg.

We've been camping using our rack system for maybe 10+ times.

You mention "2 HVAC ducts" how do those work? Also no photo of mattress or the ladder.

Looks great, happy about your T-slot mounting. Can the side tslots along the lower base frame carry the entire weight the tent (for storage on my garage ceiling)? I’m likely building my own rack for specific needs so it can be work rack and carry the tent on weekends, would adapt a quick mount/dismount system to your tent.

Also, are you planning to make (or can you ensure that) the bed platform is partioned and re-moveable like the GFC lite, for access from underneath (eg standing inside the vault bed and open tent for cooking/changing etc)? Ive seen other mfrs who are making the bed platform raise up into the top shell on pistons, but I think that’s probably adding too much weight/compelxity, and prefer the GFC solution. I like your more-aero top cap better than the GFC Lite flat top solution, though.

And, is the shell/cap strong enough to mount PV to the top? I guess I can always adhere CIGS flexible panels to the top, but Gallium is becoming expensive (China) so I might put traditional PV on top of your cap somehow.

Thanks I’m interested in the preorder!

All right that’s it I’m sold! This is everything I’ve wanted!!!!! One last question: Does the whole system still fit with the OEM light bar installed? It looks like the clearances might be tight up front.

1. Yes! The lower frame is a structural component of the tent.

2. The lower portion is actually a single aluminum panel (designed for sleep comfort). However, you can cut an opening and create an access tunnel if needed. It’s definitely DIY, but it sounds like you know what you’re doing!

3. Yes, the top can handle some weight, although we haven’t measured its exact capacity.

It sounds like you’re working on something exciting! We’d love to see your final creation, whether or not you decide to use our tent.

Looking at this great picture from @Mars Adventure Gear
I wish that Tesla will make a "S" or "SUV" version with 5 or 7 seats.

In particular, it would be easier to camp inside and take advantage of the HVAC.

Honestly the Mars rooftop tent is nice,
but I feel that there is too much space unused when looking at this profile view:

I would prefer having a full living cabine and use the roof to carry stuff instead of the opposite.
