it’s illegal in many states, including California. If you put the dark tint on the front windows then you are gifting probable cause to the police and can be pulled over by them at any time on a whim if they are bored or want to hand out one more ticket. agree that it looks better, but I prefer not to give the police a reason to pull me over all the time everywhere I go.
That's not how probable cause works. In Colorado, (idk about other places) window tint is a secondary offense and you don't get pulled over for window tint. If you get pulled over for speeding and they decide to check your tint then you'd get in trouble. But in my experience cops don't care about your tint darkness unless its WAAAAY obviously too dark.

When I was in law enforcement (albeit military security forces and not civilian). We would only check window tint if we honestly believed that you were a safety risk.

It's officer dependent I guess. And maybe I've just been lucky. But. I've never had an issue

Also, side note, states usually have a limit. Maybe 27% or something? Which I think is darker than the CT in the pics

Yes, it has.

Police have been militarized in America and most people would prefer to deal with them as little as possible. You never know when you might get a real prick with an attitude. Life is too short to deal with BS like that.
Fair. I just haven't had any issues personally I guess.

This becomes an issue when you live in a state that conducts vehicle inspections when you renew your registration. For those states, it's not worth the hassle.
Yes that would suck.

Colorado allows tint almost as dark as Washington, it's one of the more lenient states. Maybe you haven't taken a lot of trips to states with much stricter tint laws.

Tint is a secondary offense in almost every state, which means law enforcement can't legally pull you over for tint alone. The key word there is "legally". Rogue cops pull people over illegally all the time. Meaning without probable cause. Some of them profile a person or vehicle and either look for a legal reason to pull you over or simply make up reasons (like saying you didn't use your turn signal soon enough, etc).

Some police departments have window tint too dark to comply with the law. As if the law doesn't apply to them! The state of policing in America is one of the most un-American things about America. The number of law enforcement officials who are ignorant of the laws they are hired to enforce is at crisis levels, primarily due to very little training and training that emphasises an "us vs. them" mentality. It's out of control and I don't want to encourage them by driving around with windows that are too dark.

In addition to that, I'm often driving in darkness during the short days of winter and dark tints impair my ability to see as well at night, as well as making the cabin feel dark and gloomy during twilight hours. Yes, it's nice during the glare of a summer afternoon but I'm not willing to make all the tradeoffs simply to achieve a certain look.

I usually like matte wraps, but on the cybertruck the gloss is looking so good

Because it is illegal most everywhere.
Yeah that is a pet peeve of mine, tinted front windows are illegal in most places for a reason- if you cannot see the other driver it is extremely dangerous for cyclists, pedestrians and other drivers. You are putting other people in danger just so you can look cool!

Thats not a thing. If you have any data or studies to share please do.
1) I have been a defensive driver all my life as there are a lot of bad drivers on the road and I do not trust other drivers to do the right thing IE follow the rules of the road.

2) I have been driving for over 50 years and have never been in an at fault accident.

3) If I am on a bicycle or crossing the road as a pedistrian, I do not feel safe if I cannot see the driver of a vehicle that could potentially hit me.

If I can't see you, I'm assuming that you have something to hide.

As to normal situations, it is common to look at someone and confirm that they see you. It is also common to wave someone by you

Get off my Lawn. LOL at this discussion that no one will ever agree on.

I agree there can be too dark of tint, but recently I bought a used car with a slightly tinted windshield and had no idea how much better that makes driving in a state that has almost 300 days of sunshine a year.

lol at the first part,

Second part is dangerous. You should never allow another driver to give you the a-ok for proceeding.

I would be happy with 1/2 of that sunshine, but still usually wear sunglasses when driving

I didn't say that. But what happens at a 4-way stop when the cars are arriving from the opposing direction, and both are making left-hand turns? Something's got to give and hand signals help the situation.

Or in front of big box stores with people continuously crossing, a simple "I see you and I'll let you walk in front of my car" is something called kindness.

I never completely trust, I always verify. But you have to start somewhere.

There's maybe a reason that just about everyone passed a law restricting it?

And that's why the manufacturers make slightly tinted windshields.
