New to my three week old CT. Put Tesla App on wife's phone. Went thru CONTROLS >LOCKS>KEYS. She now shows as a profiled driver on CT screen along with me. However, when she approaches CT it doesn't automatically change to her profile settings. She has to hit the " person pic" on the screen and then tap her profile.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong and why the CT doesn't automatically go to her settings when she approaches/enters CT with only her phone? Thanks.

Tesla: "To maintain service life, the battery pack should be stored at a state of charge (SOC) of 15 to 50%."

On the keys screen you have to press the profile icon to set the profile tied to that key.

Out of curiosity, did you have her sign up for a separate Tesla account and have her log into that account on her phone? Or is she logged into the same account you use on her phone?

Good point. I think she is just logged in the same account. I'll try separate account. Thanks.

I'm not sure if it's "required" to be a separate account, but I think it'll make troubleshooting much easier. Don't forget that you have to grant access via your Tesla app.

You don’t do this from the app, you do it from the car on the main screen in the “Locks” menu. I did a long drawn-out/detailed description (with pictures) of all of this last week:

Dalton, thanks a bunch. I'm 79 YOA and technically challenged, so most of this CT stuff is way over my head. Anyway, both our phones have the Tesla App and we get the same messages. Individually, each phone automatically opens and locks the CT. However, the driver profile doesn't automatically change based on the phone being used. Both keys and profiles are listed on the vehicle screen. The profile (seat, mirror, music, climate, etc.) does not automatically changed based on key used. You have to hit the person icon on the screen to select the correct profile. Not a biggy, but still an extra step. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for responding. The Tesla dealership set up both our phones when we picked up the CT. Both phones individually allow access, start (and lock) the CT, but do not automatically change the profile (seat position, mirrors, temperature, music, etc) of the phone being used. One has to push the person icon on the truck screen to select the correct profile. Not a big deal, but just an extra step. Thanks

Yes, I would highly recommend setting up a separate account for your spouse. Then add them via the app.

Did you look at the images in my post that I linked? Look at this image. Where you assign the profile to the device is in the lock menu shown below. Not by tapping on the profile at the top of the screen where I’ve circled it and exit it out in green. Up top there you’re only choosing which profile is active in the moment that does nothing to bind it to your phone or key cards. Look at this image below look where you see my phone and the icon that is circled in green. You need to tap on that icon while the phone that you want is in the vehicle and active And the profile that you want is selected at the top where I put the green circle and slashed it out. Both things have to be true the profile you want selected, you tap on the icon next to the phone top line of my image and then it will bind the active profile to THAT device.

You’ll know that you’ve done it right because just like on mine you will see Dalton’s iPhone and below that you will see that the profile bound to it is “Dalton,” not my wife.

Let me see if I can try to make this a little bit simpler. What I have highlighted in pink at the top of the screen does two things: (1) it tells you which profile is active in the vehicle and (2) allows you to select between profiles (you’ll get a drop-down menu if you tap on it). [I think you already know this much.]

Then, for every key, phone or fob you have connected to your vehicle they will be listed under the “Locks” menu and each one has a small silhouette of a human next to it. I have highlighted all of those in yellow. [This is the step I believe you’re missing.]

While the profile that you want to bind is active at the top of the screen you need to push the silhouette icon next to the key or phone or fob that you want bound to that profile. That can only be done from the locks menu not the profile select button at the top of the screen.

Is this making sense?

Out of curiosity... Does your spouse have their own Tesla login? Or do you share the login?

She does but it’s not relevant. You can create as many profiles as you want and bind them to phones keys or whatever.

So, for example, you could create a profile for “entry” and bind that to a particular key. You could create one called “guest” and bind that to a particular key, or fob. You could create one called “hag”, set up your mother-in-law as a driver with her phone and bind her phone to that profile. 😏 These are independent functions from whether somebody has a Tesla account or not.

So, what I’m telling him will work just fine if he carefully follows my instructions.

The fact that they are sharing a Tesla account is not the determining factor. What you’re thinking is happening would only be happening if they were sharing the same phone. Since each of the phones will register as different devices and should (presuming that they have named the phones) show up on the screen as “husband‘s phone” and “wife’s phone”, it’s just a matter of binding the right profile to the right phone as outlined above.

The connection that matters is device to profile highlighted in this lighter color green.

Just because it says “Dalton’s iPhone” doesn’t mean that it’s bound with Dalton’s driver profile. I could just as easily have my iPhone 16 bound to any other driver profile that’s in my vehicle by, tapping on my face up there, selecting a different profile, and then tapping the icon highlighted in yellow next to my device and it would change to that profile. That’s the process that OP will go through when he’s ready to set up his wife’s phone and he’ll have to remember it’s going to bind to the profile that’s active at the time you hit that icon so you must have her phone linked to her driver profile and vice versa.

Again you’ll know that you got it right because it will tell you beneath and to the right of the device, what profile is bound to it (where I have underlined Dalton in light green). If it remains unbound nothing will be there.

Yeah, that all makes sense and I agree that it's not required. I also had my MiL on there, but not as "Hag", LMAO. And my dad had his own local profile when he used my old S.
That said, I think the better option is to establish cloud profiles for each, so that if they ever get a loaner, replacement, or a second vehicle everything transfers over for both of them.
But you're totally right that I'm mixing apples and oranges.
