Has anyone had experience utilizing a Basecamp affixed to the top of a Urander rack. I currently have a Urander rack with a 270 awning on the driver side, and I’m wondering of the functionality of. Basecamp on a Urander

I’ve got the Mars Basecamp installed on my Urander roof rack. I love it! The Urander provides for so much utility. The Basecamp fits on 4 of the Urander crossbars and actually connects to 2 crossbars. The Basecamp is big enough for my wife and I to sleep comfortably in (I’m an even 6 foot).

I had trouble with the Urander wind deflector at first and had to keep trying slightly different installs to stop it from vibrating at highway speed. Basically I moved the rubber front lip as far OFF the wind deflector as I could while still keeping it attached, and I moved the wind deflector as far forward as possible to where the front rubber lip was in direct contact with my roof glass: no more vibration.

I did not like the self-inflating mattress that came with the Basecamp. I ended up buying an iKamper 7850 4-inch mattress and it is a tight fit, but works and I’m much more comfortable.

I dented the Basecamp and scratched the roof rack he-manning the Basecamp into position with a winch and some tie-down straps. I’d suggest getting 2 or 3 friends to help lift it, because where I dented the edge of the Basecamp it broke the water seal, so I had to RTV over that to make it water-tight again.

I think my range loss isn’t too bad with the Basecamp. I estimate 20-60 watts per mile, depending on speed and wind.

I added WaterPort’s “under” rack mounts with an 8-gallon WaterPort Weekender and a 4-gallon Yakima Roadshower. The Roadshower is aluminum and allows for a little easy engineering where I added a heating element and a thermostat that runs off the Cybertruck roof 48v accessory feed. If you search posts in this forum for “Water Heater” you can locate some detailed instructions and a parts/nomenclature list. It is pretty awesome that the Cybertruck with the Urander allows this functionality. My hot water heater design only uses about 200 watts an hour and heats the 4 gallons to 118 degrees within about 70-90 minutes.

l also added Cybergirl’s Lipert winch spare-tire system for hanging a spare tire off the bottom of the rear of the Urander, but I’ve got to move that a little bit as right now the spare tire is a little too close to my WaterPort Weekender and my Yakima Roadshower.

I’m going to add a 270 awning and a privacy shower-toilet stall. Would you recommend the Urander 270? I was looking at the TarucaUSA 270 as well.

Cheers, mate! Enjoy your awesome truck!

We’re going to Zion National Park in a few weeks. Gonna be great!

Impressive setup! I have the Basecamp ordered and looking forward to using it this summer. If you’re looking for a 270 degree awning, I just installed the OpenRoad 270 degree awning. I’m impressed with the features like the built in lighting and the ability to zipper on side walls. Only 1 issue where the cover is too tight around the hinge side so waiting to hear back from customer service.

I'm curious about what people are carry in the way of a jack? I have a wheeled floor jack for use in the garage, but that's not going to work in the bush. Presumably a bottle jack and some dunnage to level it up... but wondering if there's something else? My bottle jack doesn't provide the vertical lift distance needed so I'll have to buy either a bigger one or....?

I bought a bottle jack with 20” of lift height from Home Depot. I’ve got to test that thing. Thank you for reminding me to do so. I’ve got a rotopak 2 gallon storage on order and my hope is that all my tire change and recovery items fit into the rotopak that I’m gonna clamp to the rear end of my Urander Molle panels for ease of access when that stuff is needed. Right now I’d have to dig it out from under other gear whether from under the backseat or from the frunk or smuggler’s bay. I’m really hoping it fits into the rotopak!

I will add that some of the he-manning damage was probably preventable if he had asked his friend for help. 😉
I try two person jobs myself sometimes too so no judgment here…just saying.
