45 castings counted

Fronts or rears? If rear, this confirms it’s a multi piece casting like many have suspected!

We already knew the rear had at least three castings, counting one in each bed wing.

That is some really massive reinforcement around the hitch mount. It looks like they are building the strength of the hitch mount into the rear gigacasting and using a circular interface for graceful crash dynamics to avoid impaling the unfortunate vehicle that rearends a Cybertruck at speed. The tapered sides of that circle look like it will allow the hitch attachment to rise out of the round bowl, given a strong enough impact.

There is a lot of structural innovation going into this vehicle, in addition to the latest and greatest electrical technologies. It makes apparent how legacy auto, using the same basic design, year after year, didn't want to concern themselves with the safety of other motorists. That's a cost shared by all of society via insurance rates and healthcare costs.

Now all we need to see is a middle casting and we'll be able to assemble our own cybertrucks from scrap

That isn't reinforcement, it's the sprue and runner channels from the casting process, it will be all trimmed off

Production is slowly coming together. It's like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Cybertruck delivery day is still months away.
Tomorrow will be one day closer! :)

I don't believe it is. Did the Model Y have a central sprue that massive relative to the size of the entire casting? If you look closely, you will see that the heaviest part of the casting (the round bowl) doesn't have large channels connecting it to the bulk of the casting (for example around the wheel wells). It looks more like it is structurally isolated from the bulk of the casting in such a manner that would lend itself to gracefully breaking away in an impact if the impact was violent enough.

However, we will see soon enough.

The Castings Compared..

Pic 1 is the pilot production line "leak" from December 2022, showing the "exo" structure, with a clear shot of the rear.

Dumping them in the parking lot lets Tesla do a couple of things:
1. Preposition them for scrap.
2. Allows them to cool from 1200 degrees outside rather than heat up the building more.
3. Creates excitement for the Cybertruck without expense. In fact, it's probably saving them money putting them outside rather than paying more to cool the place because of the extra heat these would give off upstairs.
