Mother nature broke my windshield

It's kinda windy here today. I was sitting in the house and heard a crash outside. Open the door, and what do I see?

At first glance, after clearing the branch off, I thought the windshield and roof were fine. But, then I noticed:

Dang it.

See if your homeowners policy covers that damage. The vehicle was not moving/parked.

Thank you, will do. A neighbor mentioned the same thing. I'm going to check my policy and see what's up. Not sure what the deductible is for something like this, and don't want to make a claim if it won't help.

I think that swings in at $2600 or so.

Spot on. Repair estimate from Tesla is ~$2650.

Hmm. I might have to run some stress 'tests' on the rest of the windshield before I bring it in for replacement. Baseball? Bolt? Chunk of spark plug ceramic? Will it blend?

If your homeowners insurance doesn't cover it (or has too large a deductible) check to see what the deductible on your auto insurance (under comprehensive) is... Sometimes it might be cheaper... Most auto insurance companies have 'deals' worked out with the windshield replacement/repair folks already...

Well that sucks! I think I would be parking the Cybertruck inside the garage for protection if possible. I hope the deductible isn't too steep.

No damage to your A-pillar or glass roof?

Good thing you had a Cybertruck and not a "Ford tough" F-150! If the same branch hit the A-pillar of a Ford F-150, it would have dented for sure, and probably the roof along with it. Pretty much all legacy trucks are extremely fragile when it comes to even minor impacts like this. And then the body work and re-painting becomes a major expense.

Thanks to the HFS body, only one pane of glass was damaged, and it would likely have been ok if it didn't take the impact right on the edge of the pane.

No other damage that I've noticed.

And yes, I agree - this could have caused some minor (but pricey) body damage on another truck with the way the branches hit. And I think you're right about the edge of the pane, too, as there were some big wood smudges in the middle of the windshield where it was obviously hit pretty hard with that branch - and it didn't crack anywhere else than that corner.

Bad luck on the hit, but such is life ...
